From memory, it is probably 215 to 220 gr. which is about standard weight for the mag. Alloy and casting methodolgy differences account for several grains weight difference from person to person.

Well, since you are turning this into a race to see who gets the money together first, cuz your only going to accept 25 orders, I'll sit it out. It's hard to hit a moving target.

In my opinion, these things should be put on a time line, not a race like this. You might not have ment to give the impression, but what I perceive is "get your money in now or screw you".

I guess I have a chip on my shoulder, and since I'm not a honcho, I really have no right to say anything, but I just had to get it off my chest.

I'm not going to budget and try to save for something when i know I might sign in here and read "25 orders reached....GB now closed" just when I get the cash all together to send out.

**As far as I know we are NOT racing to 25.It will probably take a month or more to get 25 orders.
The 25 was stated to show that we will WAIT untill we get a MINIMUM of 25 ( even if it takes 1-2 months) before placing the order.
And YES you seem to have a chip on your shoulder.

Yes, I agree that I do seem to have a chip on my shoulder, otherwise why would I have read in to your posting so wrong?

Well, I appologize, I took it all wrong and reacted in an inappropriate manner.

I think I'm going to have to grab a file and get to work on that chip.

But this is my first ever Lee mould.

Hopefully the reports from others will be favorable.
It'll be well after the first of the month before I can get around to using it.

Received the .357 KT Friday and the 41 KT today. Being new to the Lee 6 bangers, I had a small learning curve.

1.) You gotta clean the things, even though they're aluminum and it doesn't look like there's any oil on them. Dishwashing soap and a cuticle brush (used for getting grease out from around your finger nails) works wonders. A couple of minutes scrubbing and the gunk is gone. Rinse thoroughly and blow the excess water off with the air compressor.

2.) Just like it says in the instructions, compared to an iron mould, you gotta get the pot a bit hotter to keep enough heat in the mould to cast wrinkle-free bullets. When the temp's right, these moulds make NICE bullets! I believe they actually come up to the quality of boolits.

3.) A bit of lube is needed at various locations around the sprue plate. The one that caused me trouble is the one opposite the sprue cutter handle that holds the end of the sprue plate closest to the mould handle closed. Without proper lube you can't get the sprue plate completely closed after you've cast a bunch, and the next thing you know, you're pulling too hard on the sprue cutter handle trying to get the sprue cut, when the real problem is that the cutter cam is already at its limit. I'll have to order another one. In the mean time, I'll just swap the good one back and forth between the two moulds. While Lee recommends beeswax and alox lube, I find it to be really runny when it gets up to casting temp on a hot mould. It eventually ends up in the mould cavities where it causes wrinlke-itis. I'm using a tiny bit of a moly grease I have and it seems to work really well, considering that the bearing points giving the most trouble are a combination of steel and aluminum. And it doesn't run at casting temp. Stays right where you put it. It seems to pretty much eliminate the rub wear between the sprue cutter cam and the side of the mould block, as well.

4.) Be sure all the bolts are snug (not tight, just snug) before casting I found the sprue plate hinge bolt and the cam handle bolt to be loose on the .357 mould. Everything was right from the start on the .41.

I didn't run this experiment with the .357s yet, but with the 41s, I cast 30 rounds, being careful to segregate the bullets by cavity. I cast 5 rounds in each cavity and weighed them, then put the data into an Excel spread sheet to analyze. Here's the results. Cavity #1 is farthest from the mould handles. I use a Lee 20# bottom pour pot. Metal is WW with a small amount of additional tin. BHN as cast is 13.

Looks like I need to work on my casting technique for the three cavities closest to the handles. Otherwise, very impressive performance. Tomorrow I'll bring home my micrometer and get some measurements on these.

The one real difference I've noted between the .357 and the .41 moulds is that the bullets drop very easily from the .357, but I gotta play the drum part from "Wipe Out" on the handle hinge bolt of the .41s to get them to drop. And I smoked the .41, but not the .357. Anyone have a cure for this issue yet?

Many thanks to Catshooter, 475/480 and 45 2.1 for all their efforts to pull off these two projects. I'm impressed with the bullet shapes and I can't wait to try them out at the range. I'm also in on the Catshooter 44 KT, and deeply regret not finding this group until a few days too late to get in on the 32 KT.

Stew

Mine came today, 27405. Looks like another winner. Thanks 475 and everyone else involved. I'll probably cast a potfull soon even though I don't have anything in this caliber right now. Just hate it when I have to go buy another dern gun. :drinks:

Mine arrived today at 91911. Thanks for the hard work Sean. I've taken to stamping the ID on all of my group buy molds. I use 1/8" stamps and stamp lightly on the lower handle boss on both halves of the mold. It works out well. Hope to cast some of these this weekend.

It's here! It arrived the 25th while I was out of town. (ZIP 40503)
Thanks Sean for doing this for us all! Your selflessness and generosity is greatly appreciated!
While I'm at it, thanks to AZ-Stew for the useage report - it means a lot to a novice caster like me! I'll be looking forward to reading reports from other Boolit Casters, too!
Good shootin', guys!

Two molds arrived today inside a flat rate box in excellent shape. Having it in your hands and looking is far better than looking at the drawings. Now to get the WC. Life is good. Thanks.
