.020-.021 copper sheets for gas checks?

Hello All,
I have a bunch of scraps leftover from a roofing job. These are .020-.021 thick and were used for valley and flashing material. Is this too thick to make gas checks out of?
I've been thinking of turning my own gas check makers and just wondered if this was a good alternative to aluminum
Any input would be appreciated. jmsj

The majority of my gas check making is for .30 cal and I suspect that many others here can say the same , my 1st impression is that for making .30 cal gas checks that it definitely is too thick.

A .30 cal gas shank measuring at .284 + .020 X 2 = .040

That would be .284 + .040 = .324

Pushing that thru a .309 or .310 sizing die is going to be a challenge.

Now changing the equation , using .014 thickness g/c material:

.284 = .014 + .014 = .312 Getting that thru a .309 or .310 sizing die is a little bit more reasonable.

Someone else here my have a different view.

I use pop can material on boolits without a gc groove. Thats about .005 per side so about .010 on to a plain base with no real effort. .020 is a little thick but it will probably work. Lead and aluminum are pretty easy to push around especially when your talking about such small amounts. I have playing with making .410 bullets from 40S&W cases. After annealing I'm pushing them through a .410 Lee type sizer without to much trouble. I don't remember how big the 40 case is but I think I'm sizing down about .015 in one shot and the head of the case is almost solid brass. I don't think I'd try it on a lube sizer but the .020 gas check should be easy enough.
