A GI Brass offering from a couple years or so ago. Powder is slow and closer to 4064. It's new & not pull down. Anyone shooting this besides me?..................Creeker

I have some new IMR-4895 but none of the surplus. However, it was the first surplus powder I ever bought. In 1968 it cost me $2 a pound from a gun store in Tacoma, WA. The store had it in kegs and packaged it in brown paper bags. In all likelihood, it was either WW2 or Korean War surplus as 4895 was the standard powder for the 30-06 used in the Garand. After WW2, 4895 was sold in 100# kegs - and smaller containers - very cheaply.

I used it in a 7x57mm Mauser and it is a good powder for that cartridge.

I have a jug of it, same lot, doesn't seem to be 4064ish to me.

Got #32 from Jeff Bartlett about 3-4 yeas ago. Works fine. I use IMR 4895 data and have had no problems. Seems to be a tad slower than IMR 4895 as verified by velocity comps. Figured that using the IMR data was a conservative, safe approach.

I got 32 lbs and have 24 left. It is closer to 4064 my garands like it and so do I.

My first try was 47 grains with a pulled M2 Ball. Pressure was so low the case was blackened half way back. I only shot at 50 yards as it was a new mounting of the scope plus the Remington had been out of the stock, etc. Hope to use some more of the stuff this week.

As to data, Jeff suggested using IMR 4064 starting loads as a jumping off point.........Creeker
