hello

i now have a bunch of .312 sized RCBS 130gr GC spire point and the Lee c312-155-2r wheelweight alloy sweetened with 2% 50/50 solder, Both have been oven heat treated @ 455 degrees in a convection oven for 1.5 hours and water quenched (approx 28 hardness) i sized ASAP with lanolin and seated my gas checks now i want to lube them, I want to shoot approx 2300fps with the 130gr and 1950-2050 fps with the 155gr. Now can i get by with alox/beeswax 50/50 ? or LLA ? or felix? or one of white labels lubes? I have a 4500 and no i am not sizing just lubing. and i will start with reduced loads with these bullets in my 308 win also, I talked to a hornady tech and he said they did some 308 win tests with a .311 dia bullets and it was on average 1 grain lower charge when used in place of 308 dia bullets. :lovebooli any guidance is appreciated!!!!

In the SKS;

The velocityies you mention are easily obtainable with both bullets. Accuracy with the RCBS 130 gr is questionable at 2300 fps from the 9.5" twist of the SKS. Very good accuracy with the Lee C312-155-2R can be had up through 1900 fps, especially when loaded over H4895. Alox 50/50 works very well.

In a 12" twist .308W 2300 fs with accuracy may be doable with either bullet but good accuracy is probably not probable. Better to use a heavier bullet that fits better. There are several better bullet designs of 160+ gr that can give very good accuracy up through 2200 fps. This applies in the M14 also with 12" twist.

In a 10" twist barrel best accuracy with either bullet you have will be restricted to 1850 - 1950 fps. That applies to the M1 in your other post also.

In both the M1 and M14 the use of heavier cast bullets with medium and slow burning powders will give reliable functioning while keeping the velocity within the best range for accuracy. With lighter weight bullets most often reliable funtioning is achieved only after the velocity is well above that where best accuracy will be.

Yoy might want to read BruceBs sticky (it's right above this thread a couple post) on loading for the M1A.
