I have found a new 8 lb jug of Blue Dot. Stashed in the garage some time ago. I would like to use this for a mild 44 mag load. I'm casting a 240 swc from lee mold. Pan Lubing the boolit with home brew, sizing to .431 on lee sizer. Checked on the web site for Blue Dot. They show no loads for it. Any recipes would be appreciated.

429421 253.0 grains Blue Dot 12.5 grains 1076 fps

I've used this load quite a bit in the .44 Mag. Fro my experiences, Blue Dot develops erratic ignition in cold temps so I don't use it for winter loads but this should get you started./beagle

Thanks beagle, looking for starting point for this powder. Not to worried about the cold down here on the border. El Paso TX.

14.5 would be max in a Smith, so the range would be 12.5-14.5. Go no more than the accuracy required at the distance typically shot. If that is 12.5 grains, so be it. ... felix

Lyman 3rd Edition Cast Bullet Handbook has Blue Dot loads for the 245gr. cast bullets.
14grs to start, 911fps, 17.4grs max, 1160fps. Show the alloy was linotype, CCI 300 primer, no mfg of brass indicated.

As always use at your own risk.

Too hot for WW unless water dropped. Ruger territory for sure. All BlueDots are not created equal either. ... felix

I'm with felix.... I use the loads leadman quotes, but in a Ruger Redhawk. And by the way, they chronograph a lot faster than that!

I'll start low and work up to where the accuracy is best attained, Shooting a SRH 9 inch barrel

Don't go below book data with your starting charge. I've seen Blue Dot do spooky things when you load it too lite. It's not a good choice for low power loads. Something like Unique would be better for that.

The notes on the preceding page say that the loads for that boolit are for use with a COAL of 1.680". I believe that is too long to fit in many revolvers. The normal max COAL for that cartridge is 1.61". Those appear to be T/C class loads that you listed.

My Lee book says 240 grain lead .44 mag with Blue Dot 15-16.6 grains. The max charge is listed at 1475fps & 34,700psi.

I use 16gr of Blue Dot for my Keith SWC RCBS 44-250
I'm still using old stock powder I bought 10 years ago so I'm not sure about the new stuf
