I just picked up a genuine fake 1942 91/30 sniper with scope at Dunham’s Sports.
Anyone have a cast load for a 91/30? I have a 155 grain Lee mold (C312-155-2r).
Any jacketed loads also appreciated.
I have Unique,Imr4227,Imr4895,Imr4320,Imr4350,Imr4831,H45 0,Imr4198,H380 for powder. Any loads appreciated.

Start with 40 gr. of the IMR 4895 and a 184 gr. Jacketed bullet and work your way up to about 42 gr..All Mosin Nagants are different in what combo they like. Some of them like 42 gr. of the IMR 4895.I use Yellow tip Bulgarian bullets that I pulled down for the components.Mike

I tried that mold (155 grain Lee mold (C312-155-2r)) [edit - sized to 309 with gas checks] in my Mosin and it didn't shoot at all, it tumbled.

I tried some 311 diameter 123 FMJs and they shot great.
I also tried some 314 diameter GC bullets (from a group buy mold) and they shot great in my Mosin also, although not as well as the FMJs.

Both of the above were with 14.5 grains of Green Dot.

Edited since I realized afterwards that the 312 mold bullet was sized down with a check.

You may have undersized the (.309) boolits. Try them as cast without sizing them. Use a tumble lube. And slug your bore so you know what to size them to.

I got really good accuracy from mine using the Lee 312185 bullet. This came out of the mold at 179.4 grs. 17.5 grs. of 4759 produced one group of 5/8" at 50 yds. from a rest..............Ray

The lee "Harris" bullet i assume you have works well (Unsized, only GC seated in die and tumble lubed Alox) and since you have Unique use 12.0 grains with a pistol or rifle primer.I have used this combo and you should get 2-3 MOA right off the bat if the bore is good.

I shoot a 210g .311 diameter LBT "Loverin type" design of mine in a .312+ bore, the nose is .301 and the last band before the nose .304.The "undersized" body doesnt seem to hurt if the nose and front end is big enough.Strange..

I shot the LBT Loverin bullet today in my Russian 1941 vintage 91/30 with issue sights. Bullet cast of indoor range scrap and was 19 BHN. Loaded with 12.0 of Trail Boss and Win LP primer.Chrono'd @ 1175 (6'-0 from muzzle) with Es's of 38-45 and Sd's 10-15.Fairly windy, but did pretty well @ 100 yards. First group shot was bottom target. The far right and lowest shot were the first two(mark @ rt side of white circle not a shot) and i was disappointed so i rattled off the next 8 and they clustered pretty well. I moved to the taped up top right target and fired the next 5 into 1.4” ,then without pause shot the target on top left into 1.2".Best so far with this gun, but shoots very well in a couple others.Dont overlook the Loverins.
