I'm wanting to reload some cartridges for an old Iver Johnson. I'm unable to find some brass. Starline is behind on everything. Does anybody know of any sources? Can I shorten any other flavor of .38 down? Thanks.

It just so happens that Starline has 38 S&W available on their web site right now. Must have just come off back order.

I did see they have the 500 pieces. I don't even need a 100, but I've had it on order at Midway for awhile.

Copperhead,
How many pieces of brass do you need?

Remington still made 38S+W ammo last I knew.

I'd love to have the 100 I ordered from Midway :) . But, beggars can't be choosers!

I'm loading for an antique break top; hence, I'm scared of more modern ammo. I could buy the ammo and unload it, but that is a last resort.

I have 35-40 unfired nickel 38SW cases. You can have them for $5 postage if you want. Send me a pm if interested and we can work out the details.

I shoot the modern 38S&W in an old S&W breaktop and they work well.

............I'd bet modern loaded 38 S&W is loaded with an eye towards the thousands of old 'Night Stand' revolvers in 38 S&W out there just as they loaded the 45-70 to Trapdoor specs for years. However it sounds as if your brass problem is licked. I have an Iver Johnson 5 shot break top in 38 S&W and shot some old Winchester New Police (38 S&W with a flat vs round nose) and it did fine. BTW, I load for the IJ using a 150gr WC over 1.6grs of Red Dot.

I used cut down 38SPL brass for my Webley. Of course at first not knowing any better I used my 38spl dies and most split [smilie=b: I then bought 38 S&W dies and cut down some more brass and have loaded & fired 4 or 5 times or more. My single stage uses the same shell holder for 38S&W, 38 SPL & 357 but when I bought a Dillon 550B & some Starline 38 S&W brass I needed to buy a shell plate for the S&W brass as I discovered that the base is a little diff. and Dillon must run tighter tolerances then my RCBS Rockchucker & shell holder. I still load my cut down 38SPL & my Starline 38 S&W brass
