I am a noooobie with cast bullets.

I want to cast with my Lyman 45468 hollow base.

I have a copy form the Lyman Black Powder Handbook (1975).

The Ruger specs show:

Projectile: #45468
Diameter: .454”
Weight: 185 grs.
Lube: Lyman
Patch: None

Propellant: G-O
Granulation: FFFg
Ignition: Cap
Brand: Rem.
Size: No. 10

Charge (Grs.) Velocity (FPS) Muzzle Energy (Ft./lbs.)
25.5 717 210
34.0 813 271

Propellant: C&H
Granulation: FFFg
Ignition: Cap
Brand: Rem.
Size: No. 10

Charge (Grs.) Velocity (FPS) Muzzle Energy (Ft./lbs.)
25.5 659 178
34.0 701 201

I like 777. I believe I can use 35 grains to up 40 grains.

Can use straight stick on wheel weighs?

OR

Should get some 1 to 30 Bullet alloy Ingot (97%-lead,-3%-tin). What is the best mix?

I will probably get a Lyman round ball mould too for the Ruger (.457”).

Any feedback?

Thanks, Robert.

I should be easy to load using straight stick on WW as they are virtually pure. I cast some Lee 450-200's out of 1- 20 lead in my 1860 Rem. and they were relatively easy to load. The Lee boolit has a slight taper to it to center it in the chamber.

I have the same manual and have never really taken notice of this boolit. I have read some other posts where people have loaded the 45 cal REAL boolit in a ROA.

Please post your results with this boolit I'd for one be interested to see how it performs.

I use stick on wheel weights, and I know a roofing contractor! He brings in old roof boots!
four roof boots makes 20lbs of melt. Lots of balls there.
The more pure you can get, the better they are.
