For those that don't have easy access to welding.......

I found at Wally World some 12 banger muffin tins, square, 2.5" X 2.5" , filled near the top is 3# of lead. Wilton is the brand name, they are actually fairly well made and seem to be thicker metal than normal "budget" muffin tins.

I also picked up some cheap cookie sheets - put the muffin tin on the cookie sheet, put some water in the cookie sheet, add smelt - cools fast. (yes, I'm VERY careful to keep the water out of the molten lead :-)

I've gotten pretty good at adding just enough to make 1, 2, and 3 # ingots.

By the time I get the second muffin tin filled, the first one is ready to dump - I can empty a 3/4 full 6 qt dutch oven pretty quickly.
