I have a jug of powder I bought at a gun show a couple years ago. It was fairly cheap, and I was told it should work great in my M1. From what little info I could find, it doesn't really look optimal for that application.

I did find info that some bench rest guys really like certain lots of it. I'm wondering if I should just use it as I intended, or find someone to trade it for something that would work better.

It's in a white gallon jug, with a label that says "Thunderbird Cartridge Co, Inc. Smokeless Powder". It is stamped "8208" and "8#". I don't see a lot number on it anywhere. It was sealed, unopened when I got it, but I opened it to make sure it looked and smelled OK.

If it's run of the mill surplus stuff, I'll just find a use for it and use it up. I would just hate to use up something that would be more desirable to someone else, especially if I could trade it for some 4895 or something.

Looks like you've got some surplus IMR 8208, treat it as H322 speed. Use starting data and work up to see where your lot # falls for rate.

Trade it!!!! You might get 1.5 to 2.0 times its worth to you, if proven to be the 1st lot (by a BR guy). ... felix

Any idea where I might check to find someone interested in a trade (or purchase), or how to figure out what lot it might be?

From checking some manuals, it doesn't look like H322 would be a very useful powder to me.

Don't want to hijack the thread but I have a 8 lb. jug of Thunderbird T5020 can anyone tell me something about this powder?

fatelk, Where are you located? I know someone that may be interested but shipping could be a problem.

THANKS, Larry

Yeah, I figured shipping would limit interest in this powder. I'm in Oregon.

where are you and what lot is the thunderbird 8208 ?

the bad news on 8208 is that hodgdon just came out with new 8202 this year.

the good news is that some lots of the old stuff is still desired.

so tell me everything including the type of container and how much you have....red ink black ink ???

( i currently have 5 different lots of 8208 on hand)

I have a Viper 6PPC that could make use of the powder you have and I'm in Oregon.

I wish I could find the little drive I use to download photos from my camera; kids must have lost it.

It's a white gallon jug like a bleach jug. The jug says "United States Container Corp. Vernon Ca." on the bottom. I have one jug that weighs 8lbs 5oz gross weight, so it is a full 8 pounds.
The label is white with black print, and a red thunder bird on the front of it, with 8208 ink-stamped in black across the red bird. When I find the drive, I'll post a photo.

I'm in the Eugene area, but we take my son to a specialist in Portland every couple of months.

I have a white jug of TCCI (Thunderbird) T-2208. I got this loooooong ago (1980s I believe) and have never used any. What can the surplus powder experts tell me of this powder?

Thanks.

UPDATE:
Ahhh, after ferreting around I found age yellowed load data sheets from TCCI for the T-2208. Looks like it would be good for my .223 and .308 loads. Guess I'll give it a try. I had forgotten I had this jug until I saw this posting on the 8202 species.

A couple photos. Can anyone tell from the label if this is a good lot?

The jug was sealed when I got it. I opened it to make sure it was good, but didn't use any. I've had it stored inside a closet in my air-conditioned house since I've had it. Any idea what would be a good price or trade for it?

John, I tried to return a PM, but the system says you have "exceeded your storage capacity". :)

If it's all the same I reckon I should just sell it. I could really use some 4895, but it would make my wife happy to see some money coming in instead of going out for once.

I assume this is a good lot then? What's a fair price?

I opened up some PM space and sent you an offer.
