Having spent hours looking for a place that has 30 Carbine brass in stock...starting to look at the alternatives.

Looking for a case that might be sized and then trimmed to fit my M1 Carbine.

223 Remingtons are right around 0.02" larger in diameter (Head and Body). The rim is .005" less thick. Overall length of the 223 case would need to be trimmed back beyond the shoulder.

Has this been done? Is it feasable? Am I just crazy?

Jeff Bartlett has 30 Carbine unfired pulldown with inert primer.

I bought a lot of these in 223 when they were available, a lot of work but frankly I wish I had bought a lot more. Hope this helps.

Talk to Jeff and see if he will deprime and resize the primer houseing.

Is the primer crimped in Jeff's brass? I have never run into crimped primers in the US Milsurp .30 Carbine brass I have used. Then again I haven't got any .30 Carb brass in the last 15 years.

I have several thousand 30 carbine cases (not for sale) of commercial and military. None are crimped in.

I met a young man in Australia that used splitneck .222 Remington cases cut back to the shoulder for the .30 Carbine. It would be a lot of work if the cases were available.

44 fan, considering where you are from have you tried Midsouth? They are right off exit #11 off I-24 behind Mid South Motoplex. According to their cataloge they have Remington brass for your weapon in 100 count lots for about $20.00. I love em, they are not a retailer( no showroom) strictly mail/online order. BUT if you call in an order by say 0900 it will be waiting at the door around lunch time. ;-)

I'll second P.K.'s advice. When I was assigned to Ft. Campbell, I would use their "Will Call" desk to pickup items at lunchtime from their location.

Grandpa's Sporting Goods used to have a good selection of reloading materials as well although it's been 9 years since I was in TN.

Checked Midsouth...Status is on Order.

As for Grandpas...their reloading selection is a small selection of powder and magnum pistol primers....thats the only thing I have seen in there for the past few years.

New place here, Tennessee Gun Country carries reloading supplies but for brass all they cary is 9mm, 45, 40, 223, 308 and 7.62x39

Have you checked Starline? When nobody else had 32-20 brass they did.

My grandpa's M1 Carbine is gonna be happy. 1000 cases enroute from Jeff at gibrass.

Jeff said that the Win and Western brass are crimped, all the other makers are not...my guess is that 20% or less will be crimped.

Thanks for the tip.
