I just bought a used T/C Firehawk in .54 caliber. The previous owner only used saboted Jacketed bullets in it and does not cast. There was no manual, but I found one in pdf on line. No where does it specify what diameter to cast for it. I found minnie ball molds for .54's at both .540 and .557. Does anyone here have one and know what size I should get?

If you want to use Minies, measure the land dia. and size about .001" smaller. Probably the .540 mold is the one you want. I think the .557 is for Sharps M1859-1863.

If I recall correctly the firehawks are 1:28, so stick to conicals best you can. I would not get anything larger than the bore diamiter. There are many tricks to making the different mini's, Maxi's, and conicles to work in various rifles.

Have 2 Firehawks in the house. One for me and another for my daughter. I really like them. Need a protector or such for the scope as the blast from the ignition will cut the finish off a scope. Both ours are .50s. I like them a lot. Accurate and dependable. I put the 209 ignition conversion on ours. They are pretty light for MLs so if you go big be ready for some noticeable recoil, especially if you have a tupperware stock. I have the 270 gr. REAL clone from BRP and also shoot the 300 gr. 45 sabot boolit from BRP. I know with a 54 that dosen't help you much but our firehawks seem to be accurate with most boolits. 1/28 twist and accurate with boolits from 223 to 440 gr. Let us know how it does. Best, 10 ga
