I have been reading about the 300 Whisper off and on and am considering trying the idea in my 30-30's. ie. high BC 220 grain boolit at sub sonic velocities. I have been working on different ideas at the mountainmoulds.com site. 220 grain seems to be the limit for the 1:10 twist Marlins I have. I have also been crossing the information over to this site (http://www.uslink.com/~tom1/calcbc/calcbc.htm#calculator) to get an estimate on ballistic coefficient. I have been creating a few with large meplats and the BC's are .300+. Has anyone messed around with this or created a 220 grain .308 boolit for this purpose?

I cast a few 180 gr RCBS for a neighbor. They ran 195 gr and he was more than happy in his whisperer.

[B][for the Marlins I have. /B] Not sure but don't Marlins and their "micro groove" rifleing prefer a multi driving band/grease groove designed bullet ?
Have you checked the "favorite loads" section, I've seen several inquires about Marlins there

MT Gianni, I tried some of the RCBS and a few 200 grain boolits from Lyman but not in the 1050 fps area I am looking at now. I want heavier for this project. I wouldn't mind going 250 grains, but don't know if the 1:10 twist will work or how pressure would be at the 1050 fps mark.

Wayne, I had not checked that section, thank you for the heads up.

I have shot the Lyman 311284 (222 grs. in ww.+2% tin) in a 10" twist .30-30 at 1,100 f.p.s. using 7 grs. of 231. At that velocity it produced some 2- 2 1/2" groups @ 100 yards. Also tried some 311299's (208 grs.) and they shot just as well if not better.

I shoot the 314299 at under 1,100fps in my 1 in 8 twist T/C Carbine. Weight is 208 grs with ACWW. Shoot real well.

Might check Swede Nelson's thread on his rifle, it is a 1 in 10 300 Whisper. He is shooting the load I told him about. 11.5grs WC680.

He had a mold cut by Mountain Molds I believe of about 250 grs.

I had Dan make me a 215gr. .311" PB boolit for the Whisper. Loaded it ahead of 8.0 AA#9. Shot great out of my Encore 15" Bull bbl.. It was a Loverin design similar to the 311407. I only loobed the bottom 3 grooves.

My .300 Whisper likes the Lyman #311332 bullets but not at subsonic speed, with it's 1-12" twist, it likes that bullet as fast as possible from the little case. I have tried every cast bullet that i can think of esp. shorter ones like 311041 and Saeco #315, and they all shoot better at higher speeds, but I'll keep trying!!
