Here is where I am. Currently, the only 30 cal's I own are commie guns. However, I haven't ruled out a US 30. If I ever get a great deal I wouldn't be beyond picking up a 30-30 either.

I have AK's, an SKS, and a mosin.

So, do I buy a 309 flat point and enlarge it to 311 or 312 so I have a flat point in case I ever get a lever action? Or, do I just buy a round nose of the proper size? I'm thinking 150, it would work in all my guns and still be able to find reloading data for 7.62X39 easily, heavier bullets would be harder to find data for.

What do you think?

Edit: Just looking at lee molds right now for cost considerations, I know lyman makes some fatter bullets that have flat points.

I forgot to mention, this is the flat point I was looking at http://www.grafs.com/product/261999

That isn't a huge flat point, would that be any more effective on animals than a round nose? I know wider is better when it comes to CB effectiveness on game, but the only one that looked like it had a wider nose was a 113 grain, a wee bit light.

I think I'd get the 6 cavity Lee C312-155-2R available on the group buy login page for $55 and worry about a flat point when and if I needed it. Your Ruskies will love the boolits.

The Lee 150 gr fp will kill whitetails. I have never tried it in my Yugo for feeding issues. I would start with the 155 gr spitzers designed for the 7.62x39 either with the group buy 6 cav or the two cavity. I would look at adding a FP when you get a 30-30 either the 150 or 170 gr Lee's if you like them or someone elses if you want to experiment further.
