I built it on a savage action. Im getting a consistent 2115 fps with 649gr M8 API projectiles out of a 25" barrel, and sub MOA accuracy. Parent case is less than $1 each.

good show. any RUM but .338. The shoulder is about .050 lower.

I designed the round myself and had a reamer custom made. It is single shot, as the round is too long for the action. Ill be working on a shorter version that will mag feed over the next couple mo. I can make more.

any questions?

Who's barrel and what twist? How long is the case and COAL? Sub MOA at what range, how far have you tested so far? What powder and charge? Planning on cast for it? Scot

Having built some .50's myself, that looks great. Post some more pictures. Post some more details.

North Arkansas? I'm in Northwest Arkansas. I want to see it in person. Are you a machinist or what?

Outstanding.

I feel stupid for asking, but I guess I will. What exactly is the parent case being used? Are you using bullets from a .50 BMG? Forgive my stupidity but sometimes these disucssions are over my head. Thanks.

please pm me for specifics. I really dont want all my info floating around on the internet quite yet. I dont mind answering you guy individually but I dont want just anybody having access to all of it right now.

COL is around 3.9" depending on what bullet you use

ANeat, what kind of rifle do you want it for? I cant loan you the reamer, but I might be able to make you a barrel.

And yes, i am using bmg bullets

Hotguns, Im in Yellville, near Harrison and Mtn home. You can come shoot it any time. Ill pm you with my #

900 yard is the farthest Ive shot it but 100 is the farthest I shot a group. .78" from a bypod if I remember correctly. Im no marksman though. Cuts through steel like butter too.

Im using 73gr of data 68. 2015 equiv.

Heck I dont know just yet, been kicking around the idea of something to shoot a 50 cal bullet on a smaller case.

Something a little bigger than SSK's 510 whisper.

If I come across an action and cant dream up anything different Ill be in touch.

I've been thinking of a .50 something Whisper.

It would need to fit in a long action. Shouldnt be too hard to make a D reamer just for chamber or two.

I've got an 850 grain bullet mold that would work great. Think of it. A suppressed 850 gain bullet that would hit like a lightning bolt but minus the thunder.

If pressures are not too wild (over 50,000), it wouild work on a Ruger #1 or a Shilo 1874 Sharps if you tinker the extractor.

rockrat
02-27-2010, 10:34 AM
If you use a #1 action, you can go with the 50-90sharps 2.5" case

Nice looking round.

I am surprised you are getting that kind of accuracy from the pulled M8 API bullets.

I get good accuracy from the current M33 ball projectile, but the API & APIT stuff does not shoot as well. Neither one shoots as well as a high end bullet.

If it shoots that well with the M8, it should be great with a better bullet.

Nice job.

yeh, I was suprised too. Ive only shot a couple groups with it so far though. Could be luck. I am working on a shorter version that will cycle in a long action savage. I already know what brass I will use too. Not RUM though, something cheaper.

Im taking orders for barrels.

That works for me. I love it.

Would this round work in a Remington Long action? Surely it would since you've got it in a Savage.

Buisness partner in RSVL eh? I have got to meet him...

In case you're interested a guy who posts on the Accurate Reloading forum has developed something similar. He had a series of them based on RUM cases and the 500 was designed to headspace on the case mouth. He used Win M70 CRF actions for positively retaining the case against the bolt face. He called the B&M wildcats and I understand SSK did the chamber work and have the reamers.

rufracer

JFE was that a .500 or a .510? Big difference in bullet selection there.

Here is another entry into this exciting concept. Cross Outdoors .50 TAC rifle and cartridge. The .50 TAC is new and you will have to email about the latest incarnation on the Remington 700 Long Action platform.

The bullets you might look into for your application provided in .510 diameter, particularly the Subsonic section of bullets:

I see Savage has a new modular system 110 out with a single stack detachable clip chambered for the 338 Lapua. It was tested by the NRA staff at 1000 yards and turned in some very impressive groups with factory ammo. I wonder if that would be long enough for your 50?

All 0.500" I believe ... using shortened RUM brass and now 375Ruger basic brass.

There's also a 510" short actioned wildcat floating about in Australia using (hazy memory) a 505Gibbs or 500Jeffery sized case with rebated rim and shortened to 2.1" for primarily subsonic use.
Cheers...

rufracer

bullshop,

It is about .4" short for the razorback when using bmg bullets, but it would probably work with some .510 hunting bullets. The only problem is, the .338 savage is $2000 before you put a .510 barrel on it. I wonder what they would sell an action for.
