Hi guys,
Anyone know where I can get a Lee .270 mold? I heard they made them
awhile back but discontinued them. Any body have one they would like to
sell?
Thanks
Denny

LH; check Ebay they come up for auction every now and again. I just saw a 110 grain that sold couple weeks ago.

I have both of the Lee designs in for the .270 (not for sale). The exact mould numbers you want to search for are the C270-110-R and the C277-125-R. They are nothing special to look at. They look just like every boolit Lee has ever made in the -R series.

leadhead,

I know you are lookin’ for Lee molds, but if you can’t find one, a Lyman 280642 is a good mold. 150 grains. That boolit shoots very well from a Model 700 that I won years ago. One word of caution—if the Lee molds are gas check design or you find a 280642, be sure you can find .277” gas checks. I see that they are not listed in some catalogs of the major shooting industry suppliers. Don’t know if that caliber is all that popular with cast boolit shooters. I see some of them for sale on this website from time to time…

Another option is to purchase the Lyman 287346 which is a 7mm mold. It can be sized down to .278” easily and the 7mm check might be more available. 135 grains…

Good-luck…BCB

Thanks guys, what I really want to do is to size it down to .270 for my carcano's.
I never thought about the gas checks. Thats a good point. I think your right
about the popularity of the .270 cal, it's just about unheard of anymore.
Thanks for the info,
Denny

You're right about popularity of the .270 in cast. There are only two commercial moulds available anymore for the .277 cal. The RCBS 270-150 SP and the Saeco 270 (140 grain truncated cone).

RCBS does have the 270-130 FN available as a custom order mould...but it is hard to justify the $$$. For roughly the same money, you could go to www.mountainmolds.com and have him cut a mould to your exact chamber in the design YOU want and have a mould that drops exactly on the money, every time.

If you check around down in the Cast Boolits/Military Rifles Forum there's a few threads on the Midsouth Oldfeller 6.5 Cruise Missile in the Carcano. It usually seems to cast about .270 diameter. You might find them interesting.

Their is the cruise missile but it says it's for 6.5 Swede. Carcano rifles have a gain twist barrel. Whether they'd handle a 170 grain cast bullet I have no idea. Surely someone has tried the cruse missile in a Carcano

I have 2 of the cruise missile molds, and they shoot very well in the carcano's
but one of them only casts at .267 dia, so it is pretty much worthless for the
carcano. I would just like to have a lesser weight bullet to try in them, plus I
have a real nice type I in 6.5 jap that doesn't handel the heavy one that well.
Saw where someone cut one of the missile molds down and made it shorter.
I could try that, but I would have to buy another one first.

BRP has one a little lighter and shorter than the Cruise Missle. Looks like a duplicate of the 6.5 Kurtz Group Buy that I missed. For more info: http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?t=74848 or PM BABore . They cost more than the Lee's (A 2 cav. cost about MSRP for a Lyman 2 cav.) but they're made MUCH better.

I have had my .270 125 grain Lee mould for a number of years. It has worked very well for me, so it is not for sale. I don't need any more variety, as it does everything I want for practice.

Related to LEE , C270-110-R is it .277" in diameter .?

Lee also has currently a 277 135RF mold. I use it for 270 and also the rcbs 150 grainer. I'm at work but I'll check to see if I have any upsized ones for you.

I just received the new Lee 2020 catalog , on page 36 I'm looking at a Lee 270 mould it's
C277-135-RF cat.no. 90454 , double cavity . Unless this is an error then Lee still makes one 270 (.277) mould . You may have to order it from Lee but they are still listed in the catalog .
Not sure of the availability at dealers , checked two sites and both were out of stock but they would back order .
