I picked up a nice little German made JP Sauer & Sohn Model 1930 (made in 1935) 7.65 mm (32 ACP) a few days ago. I am very impressed by its design, simplicity of breakdown and smooth operation. The way that it breaks down is quite clever: The magazine is removed and the pistol checked to make sure it is unloaded. The slide is then pulled back to about half way and then locked with the safety. The rear sight/retaining spring is then depressed and the knurled knob unscrewed. This allows the bolt and firing pin assembly to be removed. The safety is then positioned to the "fire" position and the slide comes forward where the recoil spring and cap can be removed. It is that easy. It also features a magazine -trigger block and fixed-to-the-frame barrel. This model was the forerunner of the Sauer model 1938 that was used by the German Fallschirmjaeger (paratroopers). I figured I would ask all of you if you have ever seen or owned a little pocket pistol like this. Does anyone know anything about this pistol?

I have one just like yours, bought it at an auction years ago with missing parts. I found the needed parts online at a place in Canada. Can't tell you more than you already know. Very well built, handles great and shoots like any good pistol.

European pocket pistols especially in 7.65mm/.32 acp from the turn of the 20th century to around WW2 are one of my favorite classes of firearms. The Model of 1930 was basically an upgraded 1913 model. It had a better grip angle and I think they fitted the 1930 with a loaded chamber indicater. It was called Behorden-Model or officials model by the maker to appeal to Police and or Military users. That model was purchased by police and paramilitary forces and Army officers up to 1937 or so when production ceased. Basicaly the Sauer 38H double action replaced the antiquated 1930 with regards to manufacture

1874Sharps, my friend,
that is a nice piece of equipment!
You might have caught something like a little Sauer virus :bigsmyl2:

I looked around and just found some obvious facts you stated already.
Can you give me some stamping marks or numbers?
That might actually help to find some more info.

I just inherited the exact same model and variation JP Sauer & Sohn Suhl as 1874 Sharps posted in the picture. My Dad had it surrendered to him in the war as he walked across Germany. It is in near perfect condition but I need a magazine for it. If any one knows where to look please let me know. How did you confirm the model and year it was made. I would love to get more info on this piece.

Triple K used to list a magazine for the Sauer pistols, but I don't remember which models they had. E-gunparts would be my first stop, followed by Sarco and Jack First.

To find the approximate year of production Google "1913 Sauer". One of the sites has all the variations of the name/address legend, and the time spans for each. I had one with a 4-digit SN and WWI acceptance mark. If it's marked "Germany" it was a commercial import.
