I just got my lee mold in the other day and loaded up some min loads using IMR 4198 23gr. shot OK but would not cycle the action. I'm not wonting to break my op rod or lead my barrel, does eny one have an ideal of a load the will work. I'm sizing them to .309 with a gas check.

I'm surprised that load wouldn't cycle the action!
I would try a slower burning powder, run say H4350 at about 75% of full loads.Your boolits have to be at least 15-16 bnh for that kind of load, though.

Do a search for "garand", etc. There has been a LOT written here about shooting cast in the M1.

You will not get a load with 4198 to cycle in the Garand before you get to too much pressure/velocity for the cast boolits. 4198 has too fast a burning rate. You will have to go to 4895 or slower. Again, do a search to find lots of threads on using slower powders with CAST boolits in the Garand.
