Fellow members,
Below is the email I received from RCBS Customer Service after asking about the source of some of their products. I thought I'd share this since some have thought that RCBS imports major compoments:

Hi Edd, neither are true, they are both made in California.

Thank you,

Lately I have seen in several places that you import your castings and
only machine them in the USA. Also I have seen mention that your bullet
molds are made overseas. Are either if these statements true?

Thank you,

Edd Badgley

I hope this clears up some misconceptions. :D

Hanloader magazine had an article where they toured the plant in Oroville Ca and they said right in the article that the RC press was cast in CHINA. Now I truly hope they have stopped doing that, but at the time it is what the artcile said.

I recall seeing a post a year or so ago where somebody had written to RCBS about this issue and received a response that RCBS had bought castings from a supplier in China but had to change back due to significant ongoing quality problems with the castings. Having seen the quality of some of the castings that we got while I worked in the automotive industry, I can easily believe that.
They also had some mold quality problems a couple of years ago when the guy that did the machining set-ups retired without training a replacement on the 'tricks' needed to compensate for the wear on the equipment. They ended up having to do a lot of training and machinery repair.

There are still quite a few genuine Americans in California. They don't often run for office, and can't get a word in edgewise with all the trendy leftist nonsense that makes news out here, but be assured we still exist. We DON'T like being classed in the same light as the froth that rises to the top out here, either.

I clearly remember reading an article about this as well, although I thought it was Shooting Times or Guns & Ammo. At the time they were doing profile stories about different companies. Let's hope things have indeed changed...Ray

I have lived about 30 miles from the RCBS headquarters for over 40 years and 80% of my reloading equitment is RCBS. I have never heard of them using foreign parts. The company was founded by Roy Huntington in his garage in Oroville and Huntington's sporting goods store is located next door to RCBS. Roy sold RCBS years ago when he retired.
Maybe some of these rumors were started by persons who stood to gain if they could cut into the RCBS market. Most of the reloaders in this area are very strong supporters of RCBS and like me are still using RCBS press and dies that are 30 years old and still going strong.

Have I EVER mentioned how much I like RCBS moulds? Ever? Aw, prolly not, but I do.

I just got an older one from Vly that he offered here on the board, and I can tell you, it is top shelf.

Thanks, Vly!

Anyway, I have no beef with RCBS or their customer service. It's top notch.

This is what breaks my heart, truly.

I'll see or hear something from someone California that goes so against everything I've ever stood for or believed in, and I'll get so enraged that I fly off with a "those damned Californians/New Yorkers/whatever. . .

I guess what happens is that the decent folks in California (using it as a prime example) are so out-shouted and out-spent by the Hollyweirdos, granola-munchers, transgender-transvestites, left-wing communist bed-wetting pinko socialists that the impression is that there ARE NO decent people left in California.

I know better, even though I'm wholeheartedly embarrassed to admit I'm pretty bad at stereotyping.

Just don't know what it'd take to get California back on track.

California's natural charms are what causes it to attract the fruits. Geographically, there is no more beautiful or diverse state than California. From the deserts of the Mojave and Death Valley to the palms of San Diego to the majestic redwoods to the awe-inspiring Yosemite to the lush vineyards of Napa Valley. . . there is no state, or locale anywhere in the world that is as diverse and beautiful.

Commerce? From San Diego to Los Angeles to San Francisco, California used to be an economic force to be reckoned with.

I used to be a 49ers fan when I was a youngster just for what the original 49ers stood for--gold miners and adventurers. They took on a wild western frontier and conquered it, resulting in settling and civilizing the west coast.

So a question for the longtime, older-generation native Californians: What happened? When did everything start going to hell, and why?

I am genuinely curious. Was it the 60's and all the maggot-infested hippies and dopeheads? Was it the Grateful Dead? Hanoi Jane and butthole-hubby Tom? None of the above? All of the above?

Second question, what will it take from the rest of Real America to get California back on track again?

If we can do it in Massachusetts, we can do it in California.

Well, for starters the older generation can stop moving to Texas. Really. At least 5 of the members of my cowboy shooting club have move to Texas(or Montana, Wyoming) in the last 8 years. Got tired of the laws here, went there to rest, I guess. And most of the people who are replacing them are either recent immigrants or people who grew up here and their parents didn't tell them about how it was when they grew up and didn't take their kids shooting or hunting. Ever notice when guys are bringing young kids shooting it is usually their grandkids? Guess they didn't make time for their own kids, too busy making a living and making money so they can "move back home" when they retire. It wasn't cool in the 60's and 70's to be a gun guy, not modern enough, so they stopped hunting and shooting, or at least were quiet about it. And they didn't pass it on to their kids. Thank goodness my dad didn't give a hoot what the neighbors thought. When we went camping we always brought some rifles to plink with. Once the gun, freedom, and independent thinking chain is broken it is very difficult to get it going again. Kinda like repealing a gun law, once on the books it takes an act of Congress, literally, to get it put back the way it should have been all along. But I plan on staying here, and my kids are already NRA members and SASS members.

One reason the older Californians are moving to Texas is they can sell their house there, buy one here, and live on the difference. No state income tax and low property tax (the "progressives" keep trying to change that).

Recluse,
...all the maggot-infested hippies and dopeheads? Was it the Grateful Dead? Hanoi Jane and butthole-hubby Tom? None of the above? All of the above?

Yep.

As a native Californian who came of age in the '60s, I think the problem was caused by the children of my generation who grew up spoiled, without want and any sense of responsibility, all brought to fruition by permissive parents too busy keeping up with the Jones to pay attention to their children's upbringing. Since they weren't taught religion or love of country, never had to be responsible and fend for themselves, or had any sense of self worth, the children became easy prey for any radical idea or charlatan who came upon the scene.

The irresponsible, lazy and idle became surfers. Those lacking in self worth began testing the drug waters and commune life. The ones who came from more affluent households and could afford college and university, were swayed by the pinko teachings of Angela Davis and her ilk, and rebelled against their parents (the establishment). All of that was set against the backdrop of the Vietnam war. The fuze was lit. The explosion is still occurring.

That's not to say that all of California's children of the '60s grew up that way. Some of us were raised by parents who taught us the value of hard work and the uniquely American way of life, and its traditions. We stayed out of trouble and applied ourselves in school. We went on to voluntarily serve our country when she called. We became responsible adults.

Today, a large area of California is politically right-of-center. The problem is that the state's major population centers -- Los Angeles, San Francisco, Sacramento, San Diego and San Jose -- are all left-leaning. Couple that with the horrendous influx of illegal immigrants who absolutely refuse to assimilate and are continually molly-coddled and placated, and you get an upside-down situation that will never be corrected.

As the saying goes, change is inevitable. However, I don't have to accept it. California has changed, not I. I will never accept the way it's changed. I've fought it for many years and will fight it as long as I live here. But it's been a long battle with no end in sight. I'm only here as long as I have to be. Had some land in Montana, but had to sell it. It's in my future, though, along with many other Western states. Except Washington and Oregon, as they are no different than California.

Hey guys I live in California too and 462 hit the nail on the head. I would love things to be differnt here but such is not the case. The small town I live in is a great place to live, low crime and mostly conservative. But the big cities with all the liberals have the most votes. Its hard to read on all the different web sites how screwed we are and how could we just let it happen? Well, for me I don't just let stuff happen I'VE BEEN FIGHTING FOR OUR RIGHTS FOR YEARS AND I AM NOT GONNA STOP! Can't leave my family here, got kids and grandkids and none of us are sissies either! My pop was a WWII vet and my youngest son is a Marine. We all need to stick together "no matter were we live". Not trying to start anything just had to get this off my chest. Also got to say RCBS makes great moulds never had a problem with any of them and their store in Oroville is great.

I am a fourth generation son of Colorado, what I see is most of the California refugees come here and then they vote for the left and they have just about ruined this state. I will stay here through the Nov election and if the left wins I will move to a free state.

I would like to say up front that I was born and raised in Southeast MO., however I have lived in Calif. since I was seventeen years old. That is with the exception of a year 1955-1956. I put in that winter in Missouri and said enough with the cold. I came back to the golden state and have been here since. I can tell from first hand experience that California in the 1950s was as near paradise on earth as you are going to get. Utility bills were so cheap you hardly noticed and jobs were plentiful. I lived in Long Beach and the off shore oil payed most of the cost for schools so property taxes were very low. California had always been a Rebubliscn state but something happened in 1958 that started the down hill slide. We elected Democrat Pat Brown govenor. Actually the Democrats swept to power across the nation that year.Brown filled the state offices with his liberal cronies and it has never gone back. One of his first acts was to get his hands on the lock box containg the funds reserved for highway repair. This is tax money that we pay when we by gasoline. They never let go of it. Even if we do elect a Republican Governor, he has so little power there is not much he can do. I heard someone on tv say that only four states had governors with less power than Ca. About the only thing he can do is veto bills that the ding bats pass. If Pat Brown wasn't bad enough, a generation later we elected his son,Brother Moonbeam. This ding bat stopped work on all infrastrucure. He halted work on the 105 freeway which we desperately needed to relieve west bound traffic to LAX. Twenty years later it was finally built at four times the cost. Mind you all the land had already been bought and payed for. Thousands of homes sat empty for all that time. I say empty, actually homeless hippies broke into them and lived with the expected results. Here is the sad part , Brother Moon Beam has decided to run for the job again and he is leading in the polls, if you can believe that. Tough to swallow.

I forget to mention in the previous thread that in California in the 1950s you could walk around in public with a loaded pistol on your hip. Hard to believe isn't it.

I am a California native. I saw this coming and I sold out at the top of the market in 2006 and left the worthless place. As a kid it was great and then all the commie, limp wristed, enviro nut cases infested the state gov and the hord invaded from the south.

For years I watched as the graffiti slowly moved up north from LA LA land. And then the used toilet paper started littering the bathroom floors. Enough!!! California is in a death spiral because the fruitcakes in office sold the states soul to the unions. Hey isn't that what just happened in DC? And look at the result.

If you have a brain in your head get out while you can!!! It is going to end ugly and you sure don't want to own any property there when it happens.

And, when you move to a new place show some respect and don't try to tell the locals how things should be. Be humble, keep your mouth shut and remember you as a voter already ruined one state.

This is a dance, we all have our part, it is just that after you run from California, then from Illinois you start to realize that it is not just something you can blame on someone else, its time to stop running and stand for something...other than against something. Do you see the difference?
.

And especially when the WHOLE country is headed this way unless we the people stop it.

Can't lump all of California. I don't know where in the USA I could find such beauty, a climate that is as nice, reasonable taxes and a county that still exercises common sense. For me it's home. I will stand and fight here.

I came from Sacramento and decided to leave 11 years ago for many reasons, but I'm a Californian through and through.
