I am considering a 6mm/223 conversion for a Mini14 581 series. Anyone have experience with this using the Lyman 245496 Lovern? Or any other mold in the 85 gr range?

Interested in the Douglas barrel.

Thanks

Don

Interested in the Douglas barrel. IMHO...I'd opt for a 1-10 twist and definitely no slower than 1-12. The 1-12 twist is marginal with anything over 90 grains in the real world. Your velocities will limit you somewhat with the 1-12 twist too, again IMO.

Thanks

6mm-223 is simialr to my 6mm TCU. My gun does ok with the 245496 and appears to be promising. I have to work on my loads for it to get better accuracy. I've tried the heavier 245498 but the boolit doesn't really fit my bore so I gave up on it. Dismal accuracy is the nicest way I can think of to put it. What I've found out fairly recently is there aren't a lot of molds available for the 6mm of any weight. I have plans to get the RCBS mold eventually and am working on getting a custom mold but it is of a heavier weight. I am thinking Saeco has a 6mm mold that may be useable, depending on the nose diameter. Good luck with your quest.

P.S. You might want to consider the 6x47 as it has a longer neck. Being based on the 222 Mag though, it may be too long for your application. Just a thought.

I have a 6x45 (6/223) on a Rem short action with a 1/10" twist.
I shoot both the Lyman Luverin and the RCBS and both shoot very well in my rifle.
In a mini 14 OAL would be an issue with the RCBS. The Lyman Luverin should be good to go in the mini in reguards to OAL.

I have a couple copies of that mould and it is a good one. Either 12.5 grains of 2400 or 18 grains of 4198 is the load I use. I also have the Saeco 85 grain mould and that's another good one. The king of them all has to be the RCBS 95 grain one. It really shoots!
