I just cast up a bunch of Lyman 311316's, and am wondering if you guys feel that 7.5 grains of Alliant 2400 might be a reasonable maximum with that boolit. For that matter, I was thinking that probably 100 grain jacketed bullet information might be appropriate. The gun has been successfully chambered for the .327 Mag by Bowen, and others so this seemed reasonable to me........ Any input?

I've used up to 7.2 gr 2400 in one with a 120 gr round flat. No problems. 1,000 fps.

4.0 gr of Unique also works (1050 fps)

6.2 gr AA#7 with the RCBS 32-98-SWC (1025 fps) is what I shoot the most.

I bought the Lee 32-90 SWC TL mold for a lighter boolit, but I'm not too happy with the mold so far though I haven't shot any boolits cast from it. The screw that retains the sprue cutter is siezed in the aluminum mold ( I've had three Lee molds that way recently), and the sprue plate isn't flat so I get flash around one of the cavities. I think I'll just go ahead, and get the RCBS mold. I kind of wish Lyman still produced the 100 grain mold they had for a while too. If you have to buy three molds to get a good one, it really isn't worth while! :(

Are you loading them in 32 Mag cases or 327 Mag cases? I load both for use in a 327 revolver and did not fully understand. I found that a 100 gr. bullet was best for high velocity in 32 mag and the 311316 was very good for the 327. I found that 2400 was a little slow for the 32 Mag unless it is a maximum charge. Blue Dot and AA#7 seemed more in line, better burn and less residue. Look at Ken Waters Pet Loads, he couldn't get 2400 to work for him. I'm using 2400 and AA#9 in 327 with success and am still in the development stage. I'm approaching 1400 FPS from a 4" with the 311316 in the 327 and am at 1200 with the 32 Mag with a 94 gr. cast and working up for the 100.
Good shooting!!!

They don't make a 327 on the single six frame, and I don't think the cylinder is long enough.

I'm only loading the .32 H&R now. Bullshop Jr. is right about the factory SSM cylinder being too short for the .327, but guys like Hamilton Bowen are fitting custom cylinders to the SSM frames without having to modify the frame. I cast some more of the 311316's today, and did a little slugging during breaks. My chamber throats are not much over .311, and my bore is .313 so that is not helping my accuracy either...... I'll have to see what I can do about that.
Guesser: thanks for the specific input! I've worked very little with this caliber, and can use all the help I can get. I think I will find a better mold for a lighter boolit........ won't be a Lee this time. ( I do have Lee molds that I like though)

I read somewhere that Bowen was doing the conversion using a new dimension cylinder. Can't use the original cylinder unless you heat treat it again and I know Ruger says it should not be done because the steel alloy is not right for heat treating to the high pressures of the 327.

You might try sending the cylinder off to the "Cylinder Smith" http://www.cylindersmith.com/ I sent off a .44 mag cylinder and they reamed the throats to .4305. Noticeable difference.

I got that RCBS 32-98 mould and it's hard to beat. Another one is that 32-90 grain cowboy bullet they also make.

Yes, I went to Cylinder Smith's site, and that is quite a bit cheaper than buying the reamer setup so I may do that. I looked at the Manson reamers too, but it doesn't say what size they ream to?? I'm assuming .314.
