Last night I noticed BRP has moulds for .452" smooth sided bullets designed to be used in sabots for muzzle loaders. They look ideal for patching up and shooting in my 45-70 with smokeless. Anybody ever try that?

While I'm at it, I noticed the RCBS 11mm mould at .446 would probably work well for patching to bore diameter for black powder loads in the same rifle.

Man, since I've gotten hooked on paper patching I see so many possibilities out there that weren't apparent before!

I have found, the ideal castings have lube lands. I do the smaller calibers though. I have seen some spectacular results with smooth sided castings.
When I am done with sizeing, mine are almost smooth sided.

I have had, and have since sold all my smooth sided moulds. I get better results with the grooved ones. The little advantage in BC you get from smooth sided bullets matters not a bit at the range I hunt at. I prefer to be a hunter, not a shooter.
