I picked up one of the 8mm Karabiner special order molds from Midsouth. I am disappointed with it. I looks like a nose ride design but the nose measures .323! Seated with the check at the base of the neck it will not chamber in any of the 3 rifles I have in 8x57. Seated another .2 deep it will chamber in one of the rifles but then does not shoot well. If anyone is considering this mold, I would not recommend it unless you know for a fact that your throat is very large. Maybe it will work in 8x56.

From the specs, the bore riding nose should be .323. I have this mould but have not cast with it. I also have the 8mm Maximum which I believe has a nose of .321 from the specs. I have to load it by hand or only one in the magazine with my Yugo M24/47. If I load two, the second round hangs up on the feed ramps.

Could be it was designed to fit the early Mauser bores which had a long freebore.
Not sure when the long freebore was in use. It was intended to avoid increased pressure when fouling built up, so it was likely used when the Cupro-Nickel coated Steel Jacket was in style.

Works in my like new 48 Yugo, Turk and a mess of others. Excellent design. Try seating it to chamber and backing it with 13.0 Red Dot. I size to .325 for my rifles. Excellent grouping.

8 mm Mauser came in two flavors, J & S. One is bigger than the other in diameter. I don't remember which one is which. One is the older design. The other is the "improved" version. Please slug your barrel to see what your dimensions are.
I find that in 80% of my guns the standard Lee 175 shoots better than this big monster.
However it works a treat out of my Gew 88 and a few others with long throats.

Boolit of choice in my Steyr 1903 - .319" bore, Somme capture Gewehr '98 .323" bore and my 8x58R Swedish Rolling block.320" bore.
Its also one of my better casting Lee moulds, definitely a keeper..
Haven't tried it in my M24/48 or K98s yet.
What rifles are you using them in?

I have a Gew88-05, a Turk 38 and a Yugo 24/47. Of the three, the Turk will allow it to chamber when deep seated. I have the Lee 175 working just fine also but thought I would try the Karabiner.
