Closest I can think of would be the IMR 4895 surplus or Wc852. Not sure any of either of those is still to be had at this point though.

data 74 if you can find any. you have to bump up the charge by 3% to duplicate 2520. bought 32lbs. years ago. works jsut as well as 2520. HTH

If it is, you pay just about what canister powder costs. The glory days of surplus powder are behind us.

I believe Data Powder SRB-118 is close. I am using the last of a 8 lb. jug and wish I could get more.

Is there any surplus powder out there that would work for several calibers? Thanks for the help and have a good 'un, Guy

With cast most any of the medium burning range powders will work in many applications. 4895 will work in most rifle cartridges with cast. It is very predicable and quite forgiving. Look at a burning rate chart and most powders close to 4895 speed are very usefull in a wide range of cartridges. I really like the stick powders as they burn so nice but can be troublesome in powder droppers. I fell into a sale at Powder Valley on 2520 last year for $50 per 8# jug. I really like this stuff. For a ball powder it lights easy, is pretty clean and loads down better than other ball powders. My M14 really shoots well with it and the garand does pretty goodalso. In the AR is shines!! I try to keep powder money set aside for when deals appear and have picked up m,ost of my powder at very discounted prices.
