Hardness tester using Mec 600

Read a posting where a guy used his mec 600 shot shell loader to test hardness.The Mec has a gauge to applied 60 lbs pressure to the wad. He put a cut off brass from a shot shell over the wad tube(it is hollow,) then a steel plate a .177 steel BB and his bullet sample He gave a formula BHN= ------- Anyone try tis ? What is the formula? It was on Ammosmith.com under forums Thanks Rick

same as a lee tester.
you measure the dent and either do the math or use the chart.

Here is my interpretation of YOUR idea.

5/16" steel ball mounted in tool.
Apply 60 lbs.,I think it's 30 seconds of time, use Magnifing glass to measure dimple, check chart to read BHN.
