setting up a pistol

Other than taking your pistol to your local gun store. How does a person determine the proper sighting device ( Red dot or Scope ) with a matching set of rings?

What pistol and what do you want to do with it?

Scope for precision, Red Dot for speed.

That's over simplifying it, but that's basicly what it boils down to.

It's really a matter of personal preference. Try both and see which one you like best.

Sorry i should have said in my opener. Ruger / Super Red Hawk will primarally be for hunti.ng with most shots under 50yards.
Thinking of getting a lighter weapon for carry which will just have open sights
