I tried to search for threads but didn't find much. I'm waiting to recieve a Valmet 412 double in 9.3x74 and was hoping to find some load and shooting info. Anyone out there play with this oddball?

Since you've already PM'd me, you've probably already found this thread:

I use a Lyman 45 set up with a die marked "366", which actually puts out a .368" bullet, which chambers freely and I have not noticed Leading with water-dropped bullets. I use 50% Beeswax/50% Alox 2138F lubricant, because it works and I have a lot of it.

The new Speer manual has loads for this round using their bullets.

With just about any 286 grn (instert J word here) slug I've tried tried 65 grns of IMR 4831 works just fine in a DR.

I like Reloader 15 in my 512. It likes the j-word Accutip bullets and for general J-work bullets I use the Privi bullets I get from Grafs. Just got a mould from mountain moulds and will see how it works. Did try some 37-250 rcbs slugs sized to .368". Worked pretty well, but wanted a boolit closer to 300gr. My MM casts at 290gr.

Thanks RR,
Here's my baby. It's a Chapuis UGEX 9.3X74R. It's well regulated so that it can group at least 2 1/2 inches at 100 yds if I do my part.

AkMike,
Beautiful wood on your Chapuis!

Yes that is a nice piece of timber! It looks better in person too. It was an upgrade from the normal but I didn't expect it that great.

I have a Chapuis SxS DR in 9,3x74R. Have set on RWS cases (which are hard to get but last a long time).

Finding a load that regulates with for a side x side that has no adjustment is different that loading for an O/U that does have an adjustment.

I use a .366" 366-260-GCDD NEI mould that casts at 290 gr in WW. Is lubed with Carnauba Red. It regulates with 33.6 gr of AA 5744 when fired with a Federal 215 primer.

The 65.0 gr IMR 4831 load sounds like it might be in the right range ... but I'd be cautious and work up from considerably less as DRs tend to be pretty different from one another.

Good luck and let us know what you find out!

(By the way, the 286 gr Nosler partition and the 286 gr Woodleigh are wonderful sp bullets in this caliber. The 270 gr Speer is a good bullet for paper, but I've found it too soft on Whitetails and piggies ... they leave chucks of lead in a very curved wound canal.)

Thanks for the help guy's. I really like the price on the Privi bullets at Graf's. I will have to order 100 and test them out.

Finally got my 9.3. Will have to educate myself in how to shoot it. So far with the 270gr, speer reloads it came with I'm not doing so hot. The barrels were pretty fouled and the scope was loose so I hope things will go better next attemp. I must thank Rockrat for his generious gift of some sample boolits from his Mountain Mold. They look great. If they shoot as good as they look I will have to get a mold.
I must also thanks AkMike for getting me in hot water with my wife by telling me about a deal on more barrels for the Valmet....Thanks ,thanks alot...LOL
