I have a nice pile of .311 bullets which will be sized to .309 to be used in my 30-30 but they are 190gr gas checked.

I've been looking for a decent load to use those in I've found some information on unique/blue dot but nothing with rifle powder like varget/TAC/H335.

So if anybody has anything that would be great.

Forgot to mention - it's a Win '94 1968 vintage.

Are these for a lever action, single shot or a bolt action? The reason I am asking is if they are for a lever action and you are not exceeding the over all length the gas check might be below the neck shoulder junction of the case which is not good for accuracy. I have used 190gr boolits in my single shot but they are too long for my Marlin.

Lever Action.. Just to give it a shot, if they do shoot great, awesome, if not then no biggie. I'll have to make up a dummy/two to see the measurements.

For full power loads start around 28 gr 3031 and work up. When you hit 1900 fps you'll be duplicating the excellent 303 Savage. For plinking start around 10 Unique.

In the .30-30, I like 26.0 grains of H335 with the RCBS 180-GCFP (which weighs about 190 grains when cast with WW alloy).

30.5 gr. of Varget should get you about 2000 fps. Would probably make a good hunting load.

Don't make the mistake I did, I had a bunch of rounds loaded for my 1885 and by accident while BS with a friend of mine at the range I picked up my 1895 Marlin and put the boolit in the magazine instead of dropping it in the chamber and had to take the gun apart because it jammed the gun up. Nothing like first hand experience to drive a point home.
