I've always cast my own using a Lyman #357443. I was given a box of Hornady 148 gr HBWC. I assume that these are to be loaded close to flush but there is no crimp groove. I use RCBS dies which has a roll crimp. How do I crimp these?

I seat them flush with the case mouth over a light load of BE and apply a medium roll crimp. They are amazing accurate in my Contender.
Speer makes the same projectile, which drives tacks.

Emphasis on "light load." As in 2.8g BE. It's a pure lead HBWC- the skirt will deform with too much pressure.

Thanks BLTsandwedge. I'm shooting them out of a Ruger .357 mag and thought I'd use 3 gr BE to start. Can I load them to regular OAL? I've shot .38 spl wadcutters found accuracy poor.
If I seat the Lyman #357443 and crimp in the crimp groove I also get poor accuracy. If I seat and crimp at the forward end of the top lube groove It improves greatly. Less bullet jump I assume.

I have a mould for my .38 HBWC boolits and if I use 3.0BE, they will tumble and keyhole at 25 yds. The 2.8 is about as high as I go anymore and they are accurate as I can shoot, even with my 2" S&W642 at 25 yds. I feel like a real shooter with the HBWCs.

The standard load for those bullets in PPC matches is 2.7 gr. of Bullseye powder. Seat them flush and a very light crimp. 3 grains may proove to be to much and accuracy will suffer.:lovebooli

This is a 5 shot group that I shot a few days ago. Bullet was Speer HBWC with 2.7gr. of Bullseye distance 50 yards. Gun is my S&W 14-6 with a 1x scope that has a dot about the size of the orange dot on the target.
I like the HBWC real well. I have never used the Hornady but have used a few of the Speers. The 5 shot on the target and the one loaded round in the photo was the last ones I had.
I used a pistol perch to shoot this group...........Terry

Thanks for the replies guys. Now I'll have to load some up and work my way through the thigh deep snow on the range to see how they work.
