Went hog hunting last weekend with the guys from leverguns.com. Had a great time and like everybody else, I took a nice little hog - a boar for me.

One shot from the .44 Mag Marlin did the trick. 310 Lee wfn gas checks sized .431" with 21 grains of H110 moving along at around 1600 fps. In the chest and out through the off-side shoulder, blowing a large hole after shattering the bone. Left the gas check behind on its way out.

I'm the good looking old fat guy on the right ;)

It was really nice having a young man on hand to do the skinning - usually get to do that myself :)

We all had a great time - this was in NE Texas and boy was it wet and muddy. But it didn't bother the hogs....

Nice job, but we can't see the gun, or the hog in the garbage can. Imagine! Throwing all that meat in the trash can! ;)

Glad to here the Marlin 44 mag did well. I have the same one but Buffalo Barbie has glammed on to mine. Hogs in Texas are considered a nuisance animal and most times shot and left for the coyotes breakfast.

The distance to the hog was only about 35-40 yards. Here's a pic of the Marlin:

And the boolit/dummy cartridge that I used when first loading it up:

And I don't know the story with the little butt sticking out of the bucket - other than it was little... maybe just inside the bucket, it was shot-up? Or it could have been the remains of a little ram - some of those were shot too. We were all taking the meat - these are corn fed hogs, so even the larger ones should be good enough for sausage!

Hog hunting and a Marlin '94 go together like peas and carrots.

Glad you had good luck. That looks like a good eating hog.

Thanks - I'm going to smoke the hams and shoulder most likely. I've figured out how to do it pretty good. :drinks:

Thanks. Its pretty new to me - got it used and did a "makeover" on her - slimmed down the handguard, refinished the butt, installed the hard rubber buttplate, sling swivels and XS sights.

Hi OS,
Just curious how did you get the Lee LFN to feed in a 44 Magnum Marlin.
I just tried some dummy rounds with the #446 SAECO and they will not feed at all.
TIA,
Duke

When I bought my Marlin .44 Mag , it really did not want to feed the SWC's I had been casting for the S&W . I bought a Lee 6 cavity RNL mold . Feeds great in the Marlin .

I do not have a RNFP to try in my Marlin .

I have a RNFP that feeds fine in my Rossi Puma .45 LC . But that doesnt compare , different rifle , different caliber .

God bless

Duke, I radiused the top of the chamber just a tad - just enough to take the sharp off and that allowed them to feed slick. They fed before this, but would hang-up on the chamber mouth often...

Here's a pic of the chamber:

The other thing is that the Lee mold's design has a rather short nose - look at it - much longer and it would require modifying the lifter to allow it to feed...

Guess Ill have to dig my 44 marlin out and play with it I have not shot it because I figured it would not shoot cast boolits. Anouther project
