Because "its against the law to use wheel weights for other than their intended purpose".

I didn't even argue, I just picked my jaw up off the floor and left. I should have asked him what law this was and when it was passed. Wow.

Now, I'm sure that could be true!
There is a law about almost anything in the sears catalog.
If there isn't, just let somebody do something stupid with it and it will be.
Now if we could just outlaw stupid.

You just got to speak their language. Ask the tire tech what is the intended purpose of the used weights. Is his shop in the practice of reusing ww? And if they are, are they advising tire buyers of this?

Tell the tech that you are collecting them for reclycling - period. If the shop isn't into the green factor, they may be into the $$$ factor.

I had a guy at one tire store tell me they had to be disposed of properly. Told him that was my intent. I believe going from a wheel weight to a 44 cal boolit is akin to being reincarnated from beggar to king.

See? One guy fills a sock with wheel weights and smashes some idiot in the face, now the rest of us have to pay....

It always amazes me, what a small mind can concoct. Why do guys like that even open their mouths. I guess it would be better to ship the WW to China so they can come back as children’s toys.

I got it - tell him you are going to recycle them into batteries for hybrid cars. What could possibly be more socially and environmentally acceptable?
