I'm hand loading 9mm Cast bullets, in 147 grain semi wad cutter (Lyman mold #356637) in #2 alloy

In Lyman's 49th reloading book, on page 342 (casting 147 grain bullets using this mold) My over-all-length=(OAL) Is short 1.058", Why are they calling for this cartridge to be this short) , the 120 grain recipe calls for OAL of 1.110"

Don't get my wrong, I think these will feed through my beretta just fine.

It may be where the crimp groove is. I don't have the book, or the boolits in my hand, so i can not tell you for shure.

The 147gr #356637 has a longer bearing surface in front of the lube groove. The 120gr#356402 has a shorter bearing surface in front of the lube groove. For this reason, the heavier bullet must be seated deeper to prevent the front bearing band from contacting the chamber throat and preventing the round from chambering properly. The front bearing band was moved forward on the heavier bullet because it has a long bevelled 'boat-tail' base.
