Looked but didn't find anything.
I have a problem with search as it and I don't speak the same language, probably my fault.
Any way I am looking for a good gun grease!
Bought some Hopes#9 and it is more like Tapioca than grease.
Anyone have a favorite that looks and acts like grease?

I like the Brian Enos Slide Glide.. He has a light grease, a #1 for regular ambient temps , and a #3 for hot weather which is really thick at temps lower than about 90 deg... I use the slide glide light for my Para P16 Limited gun and for all of my other semi-autos that I tend to not clean every time I shoot them. I had good luck using it on the bolt of my Browning Gold also. You can put "Brian Enos Slide Glide Light" in Google and get the link.

I have a tube of commercial grease that is supposed to be the same as used for the M-14, I will have to go look for it.
A friend came up with Mobile 1 mixed with STP and warmed in the microwave to heat it so it will mix for use on semiauto pistols. Lubes well and stays put, does not run like "gun oil".

Check brownells, they sell a lubriplate grease for use in the M1 Garand. Or google for their website and let your fingers do the walking. Frank

.............I use Sta-Lube engine assembly moly grease. For gun oil I use Mobil Vactra #2 which is a sticky liquid lube used for machine ways. Both seem to work very well, both are cheap :-) Heck, the Mobil Vactra #2 is like $14 a GALLON!

I use Mobilegrease 28, a translucent red synthetic aircraft grease. It is extremely
temperature stable, does not deteriorate and harden over time, stays where you
put it and provides excellent lubrication.

A friend is a microscope repairman. This stuff is dramatically better over the long haul
than conventional greases which deteriorate and eventually lock up the precision focussing
rack and pinion and dovetail in a microscope. With conventional greases, a scope was stiff and hard
to use in 5 yrs; with Mobilgrease 28 it is perfect for at least 15 yrs, as long as we have been
using this stuff. Highly recommended.

Chain saw bar oil is excellent...... for lube and firearm protection. Give it a try.

I got a 1 pound tub of Extreme Pressure moly-disulfide grease at Auto Zone. Best stuff out there IMO. I use it in all my guns, as well as my presses.

+1 on that. Using the same stuff on my M1 and M1a.

+1 on Slide Glide. Or make your own with a NLG#2 auto grease mixed with STP and a little Marvel Mystery oil.

I use Lubriplate #105 Motor Asembly grease...cheap and available at most NAPA type stores. I have been using the same 10 oz tube for about 6yrs and still have 3/4 of it left. Also makes a dandy internal lubricant for hard used fishing reels.

X3 on the engine assembly lube.

Comes with Moly, works great, cheap, and doesn;t gum up too much when cold.

Used lubriplate and plastilube for the Garands and M-14 clones for years. Also used on bolt guns. Used Military Breakfree for the AR. I since discovered a synthetic grease with Moly from AMSOIL. Is NLG#2 if I remember right. Slick as hell and stays put without being gummy. Works great in sub-zero temps to the hottest days. I use it on all my firearms. A big tube cost me about $3. After 6 years I still have 2/3 of the tube left.

I'm using Molykote 44 from mcmaster-carr. High temp, high pressure, really slick, and doesn't gum up with age.

My latest discovery though is to use a syringe with a catheter (the kind they use for IV's) attached for dispensing grease or gun oil. I use a 28 gauge catheter with gun oil, it can dispense amazingly small precise amounts of oil. Use a larger catheter for thicker grease of course.

Big can of milspec Lubriplate from Brownells. It will last me a lifetime. Only thing is I wish it was a darker color, but I guess then I can see where it is applied.

Like Buckshot.. I have found Mobil Vactra No. 2 Way Oil to be excellent for firearms lubrication that needs to stay in place, like bolt/slide raceways etc. etc.. It really works. It stays where you put it, until you clean it off. For a general purpose light oil, I use Mobil Velocite 10 Spindle Oil.

Lathe owners keep these two or similiar oils on the bench. They are cheap and work very well for firearms application.

Almost anyplace that supplies the machine tool trade will have it or the other oil companies' equivilent. However, due to their occassional free shipping offer I get any large, bulky, and especially HEAVY stuff from Enco at:

http://www.use-enco.com/CGI/INSRHM

Item is at:

http://www.use-enco.com/CGI/INSRIT?PARTPG=INSRAR2&PMAKA=505-1987&PMPXNO=945479

Their last promotion was free shipping for orders over $25, which ended Feb 28th. I can check and see if I can find another free shipping code, but more usual is a code for orders over $50 or $100. But heck, who couldn't easily rack that up in taps, drill bits & etc? :-)
