I was given a Lee 250 gn Swc mold for .41 and need load data for the 250 gn Pb swc cast from ww. Does anyone have any pet loads or links where I could look. I could'nt find anything in the archives here.

None of my books have Data for anything heavier than 220 gn.

Thank You.

The older Hodgdons book has data for the 41 mag for up to 300gn bullets.
This would have been about three editions back. It is a hard cover red and black colored. I dont know if their newer editions have the same data.
If you cant find one I could dig one out but being a lazy sort I will avoid if possible.
I think they have some data on line as well.

last summer I was playing around looking for an economical powder charge for my 220 gr (no g/c) in my T/C Contender. It tried 6.6 gr of bullseye and it shot great with a MV of 1120 fps. No signs of leading or excessive pressure. It should work well with a 250 gr too. Now if I can just find cheaper primers...

Bullshop - I don't have that book.

Glynn41 - I shoot mostly 2400 but I have Unique, W296, HS7, W231, SR4756,Herco and Bullseye also.

quilbilly - I'll put that in the book.

Thanks for the reply's they are much appreciated.

Good morning
Your desires are sort of vague ... What revolver are you using ? Is this a Contender ?
Are you going hunting Wabbits or Pigs ?? Are we plinking or SMASHING deer ?
Having experimented with 265 grain GC boolits last time up there I would suggest you start with Unique with that PB. Blue Dot does OK for some Higher end but the manufacturer does NOT recommend usuing it. I NEVER got GOOD accuracy out of 2400. I know what my Dan wesson can do and 2400 NEVER came close.
For Good accuracy in hard hitting, fast loads I use 1680.
IF you want to push that PB Fast you may need to play with a harder Mix BUT alsways be sure that boolit Fills the chambers + ...
A few more details will help with answers though.
When I come in to the lack of info for reloading I go to the 44 Mag section. Anything a 44 Mag can do a 41 will do. Just start with the starting loads and work up.

Missionary5155 , sorry I was so vague I'm really looking for some starting loads for an OM Blackhawk and for a super 14 contender I apologize for not being more specific.

There is a lot of data on the hodgdon website for bullets of the same or nearly the same weight for both H110/WW296 which you have.

The above recommended load quoted are just a bit high on the high range for the 250 grain when compared to Hodgdon's online data.

I am currently shooting a .412x245 grain plain base bullet in my .41 mag Marlin 1894 carbine. I am using 14.5 grains of 2400 and I am getting a sub-1" grouping at 50 yards from the benchrest. I have not tried this reload in my Blackhawk but it is on my list of things to do soon. Please unsderstand I am after accuracy not velocity.

I use to shoot that boolit a lot -- --I actually wore out the mold literally and it shot well -- I used 18-19 of h110/296 in S&W and various Rugers-- I do not remember using 2400-- other than that I used herco and 800x for mild to medium loads-

+1 on Timmer's load. I am a grain higher using a LBT bullet cast 20:1 in a Smith 57. I am not such a good shot as Timmer but the gun and bullet are trying to make me look professional. It has all the power I could desire.

Birddog, I have the Hodgdon book Bullshop recommended. For 250gr. lead, it starts at 19.0 gr. of H4227 or H110. Max is 20.0 gr. of H4227 or 20.5 of H110. Hope this helps.

Time to start the loading process You all have been a great help. Now if the weather will settle down here I can go see how these loads work.

Thanks Again for the help.

I believe that Missionary has an important caveat. You're using a pretty-soft boolit, so should keep the velocity down a bit.
I've used a Lee 240gr, through my M58 and my M57 6". With that alloy, or my fave WW+2%, a velocity of 900-1000fps will keep you happy. If you want to send it faster, you might water-drop 'em. Otherwise, you might be better off hardening the mix.
The biggest point, tho', is to make the boolits fit. If you don't want to measure the barrel, use a larger sizer die, and go from there. My guns use .413", and I've compared them with .410."
Have fun,
