New guy here, thought i would cast my squirts from bullet making into ignots today. I used a cast iron pot and a turkey fryer burner a dipper and candle wax for flux.
Why did some of the ignots turn colors? is that due to teh lead getting too hot or not removing them from the mold soon enough?

+1 for 44wcf...

I believe the colors are indicative of pure lead, and are caused by the lead oxidizing. W/tin, it doesn't happen - I Teenk...

Looks like you have very close to pure lead there. Care to share your source?

Yup, You got pure unadulterated purest lead for sure.
Even the smallest amount of tin will stop the coloring.

That looks like pieces of cut off lead wire.

Yes, nice beautiful pure lead. Super for muzzle loaders, more valuable to many then any other lead.
If you can't alloy it for your use, I am sure you can trade a lot of it.

Since he said squirts I assumed it was extruded lead from swaging, but swaging what I don't know.

Thanks guys m yes its the bleed off from making swaging cores. It all comes from pure lead wire. I make 20 caliber and 6mm bullets. I ended up casting 37 lbs of ingots yesterday. Looking to trade it or sell it outright.

Looking good Michael. Won't be long before you'll be casting everything under the sun (including bullet cores)... :-)

Actually, if you go down to the Swapping & Selling forum there's a Corbin 4 cavity mold for .187 cores for sale by plumber. See http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?t=72857 . He's willing to deal.......

The thread title "Casting Virgin" caught my eye (sounded like a job description) but then I realised that the latter are in short supply, in this country at any rate.

The pile looks like net sinkers off a gill net?

According to the O.P., the larger pieces in the bucket would be unused chunks of core wire and the "spaghetti strands" would be the 'squirts' from extruding the cut core wires into actual swaged bullet cores. The cores get extruded to get them the right shape and size for the jackets and to get them to the desired (and same) weights.
