Subject: [CB-L] Group purchase of a 6 gang C312-155-2R

Update on where this idea sits at the moment.

There are 17 names on the list for the Lee mold at this time.

I have Talked to Lee and the following points of interest are:

(1) For over 25 molds the set up cost is waved. Even if the order is 24
molds, the full set up fee applies.
(2) The molds are all to be cut the same in the group of 25.
(3) The mold is specified by size cut, not the size it will drop out a
casting from. They will make it no smaller than the requested size but
may go as large as .003 over requested size.
(4) Even the fact we are picking out a stock profile they would be
willing to enlarge it to a specified size of our choice.
(5) In the past they have completed special orders for 6 gang molds in
this profile and the results are good. From time to time they have done
this but not on any frequent basis.
(6) Lee notes the idea of group purchases are well known to them and
see the spawning of many custom castings over on the Cast Boolits list.
Many are in the 8mm and 45 cal sizes. They see some requests for
obscure mil projectiles so these old war horses can be shot again.
(7) Right now the demand for 6 cavity mold we are interested in is not
high enough for them to make it a stock item.
(8) It was suggested that a standard size agreed upon by the group is
the hardest factor in any group buy. He suggested we go a little big
and
those requiring smaller use a sizing die to suit ones special needs.
(9) Cost of mold if over 25 will be $50.00. Cost of handles will be
17.98 Shipping and handling will be extra. The order gets sent to one
location and repacked and reshipped to individuals.

Future:
I would like to get the number up to 30 or so to accommodate the fact
some folks may drop out at the last min.

Hammer down the size we wish to have the mold cut at.

Explore the opportunity to make small changes in the profile of the cut
if any would be advisable.

Have some one note over on the Cast Boolit list post a note to the
effect we are taking on this project so we get the chance to increase
our numbers of mold purchases and get a chance of interested casters
that will come on over and join in on our fun and sharing of info.

Once we hammer down the details and have the total order in the 25 to
30
range confirmed, the shipping and handling costs will be estimated.

When above is done I will post an address where Checks or Money orders
can be sent to confirm your place on this group order.

I will talk to Lee again and see if I can get any price advantage for a
group order or a discount on sizer dies that folks might want. Bulk
order for Lee liquid alox at the same time? You see adding a bit to a
box for mail adds little if anything to the cost of mailing..... so
.....

I would like to get a mold out of this for my self for taking the time
and effort in doing all the leg work.
