Just picked up a M-94 Marlin Micro Groove 44, and am looking for loads from someone who has experiance with this rifle combination with cast. I have had no problem getting my 444 with Micro up to over 1700fps with the 310 lee GC sized to
.432, and am thinking that this would be the blt to start with. Bore on this one is mirror bright, and doesn't look like it has been shot much at all. Any responses from those with experiance with 44 micro groove with any combination of cast blts would be appreciated. Also interested in dia data, hardness of tested blts, seating depth, lite or heavy crimps etc. Am not a cowboy action shooter, but would be interested in lite cowboy loads as well as full power loads. Have a number of 44 molds.
I thank in advance all who respond to this thread.

I have had good luck with my Marlin MG in 44 Mag and cast bullets.

1. I use an old RCBS GC SWC 230 grain bullet over 10/Unique for a nice easy all purpose load.

2. I also use the old Thompson 260 grain bullet with good results, but have to kick the power level up (21/2400) to get good accuracy. I gues the longer bullet needs some more fps to be stable in the slow twist Ruger.

I had rather good success with my grandson's (formally my) Marlin 94 shooting Lyman 431244 with 19 grains of WC-820. Muzzle velocity of 1528 fps which was plenty for the 6 point buck he bagged last year and that's when it became his. It'll also shoot the Lee 310 grain using 21 grains of H-110 into 2.5" MOA but, it's just barely stable.

Cast bullets work just fine in the .44 Magnum Micro-Groove. For representative results, see:

My .44 Marlin MG slugs .4315-.432, so don't assume it's the same as any .44 mag. handguns you've loaded for. I've had good results with a 429244 with gas check, unsized, lubed with Lee liquid alox. My 429244 mold drops the bullet at about .432 using wheel weight metal, so I got lucky when I bought the mold. I've loaded plinking loads of 1,100 - 1,200 fps that gave good accuracy at 50 yds. with no sign of leading.

1shirt, my Marlin 1894 44 mag is one of my top three cast boolit successes. I use the RCBS 240 GC boolit and it doesn't feed the slickest in the world, but is good enough not to be a hassle or anything. 24.0 grains of H110 and a mag pistol primer. I run the boolit through a .430 sizer and lube it up with FWFL. Clover leafs at fifty are routine. I haven't put this load on a chrony, but it's got some umph to it.

Good luck,

Keith

Hullo 1Shirt, I have 2 of these Marlin 44's with MG rifling, they shoot very well with boolits up to 270 gr, if you go heavier, you start having stabilization problems. I use as cast boolits that drop at .432-433 with good success with out sizing....for reduced loads, you may have to play with your alloy , maybe not...try some and see, after you know what size boolits you are dropping

I had one of those back in the 80's. Tried all kinds of things and it would not group cast bullets at 25 yds, just patterns. Got rid of it. But you guys were not available to help me back then. Good luck, cause lots of people do get them to shoot, just not me.
