I would appreciate information concerning a decent thermometer for use in a Lee casting pot and a smelting pot when needed.

Like everyone else these days I'm looking to save money. No Lyman's please.

Buy one of those.

You can upgrade to PID control at a later date.

And you help out this site.

Check this out:

This is what I use. As I get older Large Digital Numbers look a lot better.

For a good dial thermometer, go to Surpluscenter.com. I got mine for ~ $15.

I am also looking around for a good thermostst for my Lee Pro 4-20 pot.

I just went to SurplusCenter.com, and the cheapest one there is now $24.99, with $10.00 shipping. :(

But I am keeping an eye out on one of THESE (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250571511988&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT), or one of THESE (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250576322350&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT), at the moment. I want to do a little more research to see if they are worth the price.

I also followed the link above, to a fellow CastBoolitz member, but am awaiting a bit more feedback. They see to have something goingon over there, but it might be too "techy" and over my head. I will know a bit more when I get a response back from some of the other folks who purchased (and built) one of those contraptions.

I will leave my options open for the moment.

Raymond, don't get that second one (dual k-type) - look close at the specs closer

Package Include:

1 x DM6802B Unit
2 x K type temperature test probe(-50 to 250°C)
2 x screw
1 x operating manual

the unit will handle the range, but the 2 thermocouple wires are only rated for 250 C (482F) which is not a "true" K rating. you'd still have to buy a seperate thermocouple/probe
