I am fairly certain I am going to get a 7mm-08 with a 24" barrel . I have narrowed it down to two models one has a 9 1/4 twist and the other has a 9 1/2 twist.
Which twist is going to provide better with accuracy with the 120 grain bullet. I may use the 140 grain accubond or the barnes 110 but I will shoot the 120's most often. I will be handloading so the load will be tailored to the rifle, but i would like to start with the twist that will be most optimal.

Don't think you'll notice much difference between the two, theoretically either is too fast for the 120 grain bullet unless it is all copper and very long like a VLD type. I wouldn't worry about the 1/4" difference at all.

You're never going to notice the difference.

Just to be different go with the 9 1/2 Twist.

the 8-10" twists are really better for the 140-160 class bullets in 7mm. Personally never did anything much with the 120 except coyotes and range plinking. Use 140gr for hunting anything bigger than coyotes, the 120 blows up on them. For targets I load 168gr Sierra, which is more suited to 8-9" twist.
my 2 pesos worth anyway

I say go with the faster twist.

My personal favorite bullet in 7mm is the hornady 139 gr I have never had much use for light bullets in any caliber as I like penetration and down range retained energy too much.

My personal favorite bullet in 7mm is the hornady 139 gr I have never had much use for light bullets in any caliber as I like penetration and down range retained energy too much.

I had my last silly wett gun built with this bullet in mind. The advantage with the Hornady's is that they maintain the same profile from 139gr up to 162gr.

I have found 7mm's to be very tempermental. Both my hunting partner and I own the same model SAKO rifle in the same caliber. His gun won't shoot anything heavier than the 154's and mine doesn't like anything lighter than the 162's. If that wasn't bad enough my 7X57 Mauser likes the 120SSP's best of all.

Go with the 9 1/2".
