I ordered 100 once-fired Remington 2 3/4" STS (Nitro 27) hulls from Midway. Some of the hulls do not look like they are once fired - all the lettering is gone and it looks like sizing die marks on the brass. The thing that concerns me the most is that everyone of the hulls has a 1/4" circle protruding slightly and the edge seems cut into it. Looks like when a paper punch just started going through a piece of paper. The only thing I can think of is that someone had a gun that had a hole in the chamber and someone tried to repair it or it was used in a presure test gun. I'm new to reloading shotshells but these don't look like hulls you would want to reload. I wanted your opinions before I contact Midway. Below are the best pictures I could get of the circles.

Sure looks like a pressure test barrel shot them

I agree something don't look right. The crimp is a good indicater of once fired after a reload the creases in the crimp get nasty looking. Those look once fired but with a whole different set of problems. FB

Yep, copper crusher circle. No harm. Use at normal pressure and you'd be OK. ... felix

If you read the reviews on that product at Midway you'll see quite a few dissatisfied buyers commenting on that many of the hulls were most definitely reloaded.

Unless you paid a whole bunch for them, I'd just load em and shoot em. I have shot a lot worse looking hulls and got plenty of reloads out of them. Looks good to me. I really doubt that the indentations will make a bit of diffence. But, I don't like the looks of the one with the wrinkle above the head.

if you're unhappy I'd call midway and see what your options are, as stated earlier they may work fine for regular shotgun shot loads, i dunno.

I'd also write a reveiw in the midway space for them. I use those comments regularly to determine what products I may or may not like. Be nice but descriptive that will go a long way in helping others decide on the hulls.

Those are high dollar Remington hulls. Check the primer color. Remington use either all brass or brass and copper primers. If the primers are silver, then chances are they have bee reloaded.

I bought some hulls from Papcharlie. He is on Gunbroker, or you can email him direct. Shipping will cost you more than the hulls.

I I think I would be mad if I paid ($11 per 100??) for those hulls from midway, but it might be better to load them once then throw them away and chalk it up to experience. It would probably cost you more than $11 to ship them back.

You can get new STS hulls from BP. STS hulls are similar to Nitro hulls, but a different color. They are 2X what you paid.

If your not happy with them ask for a refund....used hulls usually run about .05 each....My kid pulls trap and stocks the sporting clays course at our gun club so I get lots for free and he bags up the nice ones and sells them for .03 ea....to help pay for college????.
I get the ugly ones and keep reloading them until the plastic where the crimp is has slits and holes.....then I load them twice more......:redneck:

They are probably ok to use
