Papa Smurf here needing help. I built a few side lock percussion back in the '70s &'80s but lost all and then some in a fire in 2000. Now my grandson would like to have me help him build one. I am at a loss as where to get something worthwhile.

http://www.flintlocks.com/ Jim Chambers Flintlocks. They ain't cheap, but they are worthwhile. Expect to pay around $800.00-$1000.00 for one, but you'll have something to pass down many generations.

What price range are you talking about and what type are you looking for? A few places to llok are Basspros, dixiegunworks, cabelas, track of the wolf and cainsoutdoors.

The ones from Cabelas, Sportsmans guide, etc are drop in kits with some finishing to do.
TOW kits are the real deal. You have to inlet etc...
I tend to go that way. Once they are done, I am looking for another. The longer they take, the happier I am.

Having bought from several different places I would just go back to TOW. Some are just not worth the extra money.

you can get lyman great plains rifle kits and matching pistol kits from midsouth shooters supply. rifles are $350.90 and the pistols are $195.68. haven't tried the pistol but the rifle kits make up into an excellent gun with very authentic mountain man styling. for what it's worth, bubba. good luck with your quest friend.
