Assuming my rockchucker will hold up whats the ballpark price to break into swaging?

Less than $200, presuming that you have casting equipment and molds already in place.

It will cost you 134$ including shipping.

What a shame!

You need to sell that 40 S&W (Stupid & Worthless if you ask me ;) ) and buy a good 45 cal, and make the 40 cal cases into something useful! ;)

Everyone should have a 40, and a 45 ;)

With absolutly nothing at all and starting from scratch I have figured it would be just under $400. This would included absolutly everything from new press, dies, molds, lead pot, brass, lead, and maybe even a electirc scale. Could be like half the cost if you find some of the stuff used like the press or lead pot or some good sales. It is like anyother hobby you can spend as little or as much as you like. For many here I think they have got their money back many times over and then some vs. buying commerical and we have a fun time at it as well.

Can not go wrong with the affordable CH dies, they are a simple design and can lead to many great improvments and possibilties :) With most equipment that any reloader should allready have, the $134 order to CH could possibly be all one would need.

I'm assuming, but will ask anyway, that the nickel 40 brass would not be used to make bullet jackets ??

It looks absolutly COOL! but everyone figured the nickel would be awefully hard on the barrel unless you just did not care or had a worn out barrel all ready it would make one heck of a "silver bullet" look in a nickel case. Could be hard on teh dies too.

So how does Speer get away with their nickel plated bullets? Maybe a whole nother thread.

Nickel jackets were uses in the early days of jacketed bullits. They fouled baddly and was very very hard to remove from the bbl.

Also...
Lee mold 20-$50.
one step die from BTsniper $125.00
a Rc press.
a melting pot.
lead or WW.
cases.
Not paying $25.00-$30.00 for one box of jacketed bullits.....Priceless! LOL.....Buck

"one step die from BTsniper $125.00"

Haven't uped my prices yet as the 40 cal one step can still be had for $100. The 44 I offer at $125. So an even better deal..... Priceless!

And I do...

BT on your one step die how does one know how much lead to just in the old "case" before swaging into a jacket? I'm looking to dip my foot in the water before jumping from the boolit pool to the swaging pool.

Also can someone post a picture of a swaged 9mm case to 40 finished projectile?

It is a bit of a guess initially with how much lead to use. It really depends on what core boolit molds is avialble. 120-125 grain core for the 9mm brass and 180-220 for the 40S&W case works well.

Hey BT sniper, how about a 458 die?

So assuming you use a cast boolit as you core the one step dies result in a jacketed soft point correct? Is there an concern of pressure through the boolit base (ie old primer hole) might result in gas build leak into the jacket and swelling occurring, causing pressure build up? Sorry, Im a newb I just wonder.
