Purchased this from the net in 2005. Only now getting around to using the press and decided to set it up for my '06 rounds. Once mounted to the bench I find it has a tight spot at the very top of it's travel. Time for a tear down...........Creeker

Convert it to a 450B, you won't be sorry.

I started with a 450, upgraded to B when dillon came out with it, been using it ever sence.

I checked both my 450's and they are both RL450 with no B. I wasn't aware Dillon used the 'B' suffix on the 450's. Am I missing something here?......................Creeker

First, removed shellplate & shellplate platform. This is very simple to do with hex wrenches.

Next remove the keeper bolt from bottom of ram. This allows the pin to be knocked out with a punch.

Now remove pins connecting linkage to press. The problem was here. The linkage is off.

I don't know the year dillion(18+ Years ago) went to RL450B but when they did they offered a "B" upgrade for the RL450 owners, 3 or 4 years later they went to the RL550

The "B" conversion consists of auto primer feed and auto powder
dump with linked fail safe on powder measure.

I'm not even sure there still available.

Dillion will try to sell you a 550 frame.

With the linkage off I found a rough place or two. This was from lack of use. I’m sure this press did a lot of sitting and little loading. I’m not sure when the press was made but I’d say the linkage hadn’t moved in 20 or 30 years. Anyway a few strokes with a round file smoothed the openings and a flat file removed a place or two on the pins. The compound part of the linkage needed nothing.

A little lube in a few places before reassembling.

Call, or send Dillon an email.
They will fix you up right.
A friend gave me a Dillon SDB loader.
Powder hopper was cracked.
Emailed Dillon and they sent me a new one, NO CHARGE.
If that's not great customer service, I don't know what is.

I bought a "550" press on Ebay and it is a 450 upgraded to 550 with all the extra parts such as the manual powder measure, manual primer system and the 450 frame. Anybody have an idea what to do with the 450 frame?

Unless you want to piece another 450 together it's junk or a boat anchor. HEE HEE

Dillion can't be beat for customer service. I was changing my 500 from small to large primers to load some 22-250. Fumble fingers here dropped the priming arm and broke the stem of it.
So I call Dillion to order replacement parts. Figured I'd buy a whole parts kit, just to have on hand. I ordred it buy number. The rep asked me for my shipping address which I provided. He WOULD NOT take a card # for my order. I persisted, he refused. The parts kit showed up 3 days later.
Dillion has a customer for life with me.

I've owned Blue Presses since 96 or 98, can't remember without looking for the invoice. You guys are correct concerning Dillon service. It's great but since nothing was broke I decided to do this job myself....................Creeker

LAH,

If you want one of the alignment tools, I will send you one. I think I have three. I didn't order the extras but when Dillon sent me some other parts they included it.

You can also just use the primer seating station to align the head. Basically, the primer carrier should enter the shell plate without resistance or pushing the primer holder cup (not real term) down.
