Some of the more interesting stuff can be found under the tables, in the crates that haven't been unpacked. About a month ago, I went to a show and the table owner had a big pretzel bucket full of brass for $10. I could see that many of the rifle cases were primed so I bought it. I figured I really couldn't lose as it weighed about 25 pounds and was worth that in scrap value. It turns out that most were 30-06, 308, and .38 Special cases with a handful of other things thrown in for good measure. I deprimed the brass, yielding approximately 300 primers that will get used for low velocity rifle fodder for offhand shooting at 25 and 50 yards...Ray

One of the last gunshows we went to we found a case of Black powder hide under someones bench, a preciuce thing to a Alaskan that want to shoot a Muzzle loader. As you can guess we bought it all.

The Websters are good scales. I am assuming that you have the RW-1?
It appears that you do not have the correct oil jar. It should be glass with a screw on, black steel lid.
Oil dampening was popular for a few years in the late 1950's through the mid 60's. 10 weight motor oil was recomended.
If the oil is to heavy it will not allow the beam to swing freely and give altered readings. Another problem is the mess. Oil creeps over the side of the jar and gets into everything. After each use you will have to remove the jar and clean the paddle, or the oil will creep.

Webster also made scales for C-H, Texan and Pacific along with some that were not marked.

You did good with the scales. I love gun shows and look mostly for equipment instead of guns. Here's one of my finds....................Creeker

Pressman

got any idea where to get a vial from I`ve been in the paintin section of most craft stores , but most look to big????

Yeah I thought 10w40 would be a little thick so I got power steerin fluid in the bottle.

Check out the American Science and Surplus website. They usually have many kinds of small glass bottles with screw on lids, leftovers from cosmetic factories and so on. Try a Google search for "small glass bottles/jars while you're at it.

Also (just thinking out loud) would something like 3in1 or Marvel Mystery Oil work as a dampening agent? 20wt seems a little viscous to me.

An exact match for the bottle is 1-11/16" OD x 2-7/8" high.

What Pressman says is certainly correct. My first scale was a Webster RW-1 and I used it for almost twenty years until it was destroyed by a ham handed furniture packer dropping it on a concrete floor. The oil business irked me and I finally omitted its use and substituted using my fingernail to dampen the arm. With a bit of practice this proved to be very satisfactory and just as fast or even faster than the RCBS with magnetic dampner that has replaced it. They may have been a bit crude looking but were very good scales. Neil

For dampening oils try the medicine cabinet.
Caster oil, Cod liver oil, Mineral Oil, Baby Oil all of which are safer, cheaper and available. ( the Caster oil may be a smidgeon on the thick side, as I remember.)

I would vote for Electric Motor Oil. It will not gum over time. Just a thought :)

I wonder if a model airplane paint jar wouldn't be about the right size. Check the toy section at wally World.

I`ve been to a craft store & seen bottles in the paintin section that may work .
the bottles are in the air brush section.

3in1 oil works best not as viscious.

Thanks for all the input fellas!!!
