I'm using 44 cores from my Corbin set, I've made about 2000 of these. It takes a little bit to get it started but then she flows. The cores stick together coming out so you can make it long or short. Fits the case nice. I haven't heat treated yet, I could not wait to try. On to the next project>:redneck:

CWME it is an Corbin S press. I've had it a few years.

Did you make that die or did you pick it up somewhere. Great Idea

I made it about a year ago.

Hardcase54,
any reason you are using the reloading adapter to hold the die and not directly threaded into the ram on the s press?

Can you give more specs on the construction of your die? I have a blank that has not been through drilled sitting on the lathe. Might be a good project to make wire for a making 38 I currently have and then for the 9mm to 40 of BT when I collect enough spare change.

I would guess that he is using the reload adapter for a couple of reasons, first is that the stroke on the press is fairly short when you are set up for swaging, You need to take up a fair amount of room either with an extension on the ram or the punch holder ends up being pretty long. Second, the threads in the ram are 5/8 with 24 pitch and you pretty much have to special order a tap and die to get something to cut those threads. Won't find it at ACE.

, right on both counts. I have since picked up a 5/8 x 24 die, since my lathe won't slow down enough to cut threads. The die I'm using now is longer and threaded so it fits the ram and no adapter needed.

Die is made from A2 steel, exit hole is .187, entrance is .375. Anything else?

hardcase54,

thanks a bunch. that is what I was wondering.

How much pressure do you think it takes to punch the billet into wire? Are you lubing heavily or like you would to core swage?

Very nice info once again shared with the rest of us.

Looks good.

Normal lube, but more pressure then forming a 44. Not a lot but enough you can feel it. If the lead is warm to the touch the pressure goes way down.

Wow, Very cool! I've just come into a huge load of range lead and am looking to extrude wire for .224 swaging.

I've been thinking of doing so with a HF shop press. Just researching how much pressure it will take to extrude a good sized slug without additional heat..

The idea of the right-angle output is really nice for adding a coil winder!
