Ive been loading for the ar15 and have loads for that but just picked up a ruger bolt and was wondering what some are useing for lighter loads with that round. Im looking for something about 1500 fps with a 140-150 and a plinking load. I load progressive so im looking for loads with powders that run in a measure. Thanks guys

18gr of Accurate 1680 with Lee's 155gr boolit lubed with either LARS 50/50 or LAA will get you a good 50 yard load that functions a SKS.

7gr of Unique with same boolit for a sneeze load.

I load both for a 7.62x39 Mauser I built a few years back for one of my sons.

I have good results in my CZ527 with the Lee C312-155-2R and SR4759. 13gr=1420 fps up to 19gr=2025.

I'm also very pleased with 311407 and 10 to 12 gr of 2400. No chrono data, but several 50 yd groups under 1/2 in.

Initial results with a Magma 100 gr RNPB are mixed. 4.5 gr Bullseye was decent and 9 gr Universal was terrible. Need to find the sweet spot with that one, it might make a very good plinker.

So far I'm sorely disappointed with the NOE 130 SP. Best I can do with SR4759 is 2 in at 50 yds. I had high hopes for this one....needs more work. I have the HP version ordered...I hope I'm not wasting my time and money.

Anyway...nice little cartridge. Good luck with yours.

Check The Cast Bullet Association website, Reloading Cookbook section for "7.62x39 Subsonic 200-gr Cast Bullet": there's a spreadsheet for cast loads in the Ruger that was lifted from Handloader #177

I use 13 grains of 2400 and a 155 NEI GC bullet. It cycles in my SAR-1, but the load doesn't quite cycle in my AR. I get 1.5-2" groups with this load at 100 yards.

These function in all SKS I have and a Czech VZ-24 rebuilt for 7.62 x 39 using Lee 312-155-2r bullet at 17.5gr Accurate DATA 200 or 2200

If shot skillfully will hit the small steel on a Caldwell twin-spin on the 100 yard berm and normally the 5" steel no problem

12.5 grs. 2400 for picking brass up at your feet or 14.0 grs. if you want to go chase it down under the Lee TL-312-160-2r. Under 1" at 50 yds. in two different SKS rifle.

I get pretty good results with 28.1gr TAC and a 147gr FMJBT in my Mini-30 (0.310 groove dia.). Would TAC be too slow a powder for the LEE 312-155-2R using a similar charge?
I just happen to have a lot of TAC to work with. It's between H4895 and H335 in burn rate.

NEI original C.E. Harris 312-155 (casts at 167grains in wheelweights) and 22 grains of Reloader 7. Worked well in a Chinese SKS, and GREAT in a Ruger 77 Mk II.
