Lee 252 gr SWC

Anyone using Lee .45 cal mold #90356, 252 SWC in their .45 LC? Nice fat meplat, should swat deer hard. I'm wondering about accuracy? TIA, Dennis

I just acquired one..will try it out in the Spring. I have cast 200 bullets with it and they look great. I had used one it the past in my Ruger Blackhawk--they were quite good as I recall. I then bought a Keith style and never had good luck with it. Most that have use heavy loads; I prefer a load in the 800~900 FPS MV area.

They ARE good looking projectiles aren't they? Wonder if they drop from the mold at .454"+ as my .45 Blackhawk has fat throats...:violin:

With pure WW metal they are at just over .452" as cast.

That boolit is very accurate in all my .45's.

My mould throws them at .453" and 257 grains in WW alloy.

Was my first boolit mold. Before Lee introduced the 452-255-RF. Works well in my Blackhawk as cast of WW's @.452"-.453".

Just wondering--what is your most accurate load with it?

I found accuracy to be far poorer than a 454424 and e-bayed mine. I used LLA and FWFL in the shallow lube grooves.

19gr. Hercules 2400 did the best with my throats @ .4505"

Did it, but haven't shot yet. Should see a improvement and less stress on cylinder with my heavy loads. Factory throats did well with XTP bullets.

If it's a Ruger, try 9 gr. of Unique as a start load.

The day I bought my Blackhawk convertible, I used that combination and was amazed to see a 6 shot group of a little over an inch at 25 yards.

But the same bullet hit with HS-6 or W-296 shoots pretty nice!....I think sixguns are kinda like women....(but I will stop right there!) :bigsmyl2:

how much hs6 do you like with that range of bullet weight in 45 colt? i'm working around the 11.5gr range with a 275gr swc from leadhead sized .4527 in .453+ throats and looking for the sweet spot. curious as to velocity with your choices, as well. thx.
