I am trying to come up with a load to put under a 170gr CB for my Mauser. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the help.

well it all depends what you are usin it' for, hunt or plinkin'. and the type of 8mm mauser. a lot of roles play a factor. :lovebooli

19-20 grs of IMR SR 4759

21.5 grains of Milsurp 4759 was best under the GB 175 grain boolit for me, but 18.5-21.5 was all acceptable.
22.5 grains was like I shot the target with buckshot

The Lyman "Cast Bullet Handbook" lists 13.0 to 17.0 grains of Unique with a 181 grain gas checked boolit. That is close enough to your 170 grn boolit to give you a place to start for load development. I have had very good results in all my milsurps with Unique.

Hope this helps,

13.0 Red Dot, 16.0 2400. Both are "go to" loads for most any mi-surp with 7x57 or larger capacity.

Offhand Military CBA match. It is a Mitchell Mauser. Need it to shoot fairly tight groups.

I haven't tried Unique in the 8 x 57, can't say one way or the other vs. 2400. 16.0-18.0 grains of 2400 behind the Lee 175 grain boolit has worked very well for me in a G98/40.

In my Yugo 48 I load the Lyman 323470 over 28.5gr. of RL-7 for a Vel. of 1995. This is my hunting load, very accurate.

i've had very good luck with 28gr. imr 4895 & the lee 175 sized to .325. just depends on gun. ymmv.[smilie=f:

Put a 1/2 or 3/4 gr dacron filler over that 28 gr load of 4895 ad you will have a real winner. This last week I've been shooting a lot of "rogue" rocks in the Arizona desert with a M48 using that load except I'm shooting the GB GC'd bullet. It's running not quite 1800 fps and is amazingly accurate to 500 yards (I run out of elevation on Lyman SME right about there or I'd shoot farther).
