The other day i pluged in my pot and got side tracked and the pot was on all day at least 10 hours (bad mistake) any way when i looked at the pot there there was a crust like stuff on the surface and I broke it up it did not melt back in the so i scooped it out. what do you all think the stuff on top was. the lead in the pot was 50 percent wheel weights and 50 percent range lead
thanks

Could be crud that was never fluxed out, and you did right by tossing it.

Could be oxidation. In that case, fluxing will get it back into the mix.

I,ve done that. not that long , just a couple hours though.
The stuff on top fluxed back in easily. It was just oxides.

Could be wrong but I think it may have been the antimony seperating from the alloy after such a period of time. Probably better to skim it off as it would be hard to get it mixed back in. You may just have ended up with a purer, softer lead alloy. No problem, depending on what you are using it for.
