Just struck out looking for an lb. of 3031 at all my usual suspects... Anyone know of a source near the twin cities? (Minneapolis/St. Paul, that its).

Bert if you go to the Wolfs Den , In Hugo. They have most stuff you need. Plus they have the best prices around. If they don't have it this week they will shortly.

I haven't seen a can of 3031 in over a year and a half. I haven't checked Gander Mtn. cause I refuse to shop there.

Got to agree about Gander Mountain- I go to Wof's Den a few miles away from the Gander Mtn. on the North side of town. The folks there know more about their stock in trade than the disinterested/teenage staff at Gander, the prices and selection of reloading supplies are better too.

But Wolf's Den was out too.

If ya get up to St Cloud Scheels has 3031. Or if you find yourself up by Osakis the General Store has it on the shelf. East of Little Falls is Shooting Sports and they had 3031 last week when I was there.

Bit of a hike from the cities- But thanks for the information. Maybe could roll a trip to St. Cloud into a visit to Track of the Wolf in Elk River. The others are WAY out of route for my commute from Eagan to Pine City.

OK, I've gone through all the reloading suppliers in the immediate area who can be found by my idea of a web search. Everyone is out, no one knows if or when it will be restocked.

Never reloaded 7.62x39 with anything but other powders and cast boolits for use in a bolt action, apparently 3031 is a popular choice for FMJ in semi autos. Guess I know why it's unavailable.

Just take a weekend to go up to Lake Osakis and catch some walleyes. If you can't find any by March I have a VA appt in Minneapolis, I could pick some up for you.

OK, thanks- I'll PM you if I find some before then... Looks like Wiedner's DOES have it in stock, but I need to be ordering more than 1# to make the hazmat charge worth it.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. Got some 3031 tonight at The Log Cabin in Danbury WI.

Also got some IMR 4895 there for the upcoming cast boolits in '03 Springfield & M1 Garand project- And there were all kinds of CCI primers available too. The boxes had just come in, the clerk said his boss was selling them "for the old prices" ( pre Obama).

Been buying primers and powder from Bruce at Wolf's Den for years. Never been to his store, I purchase at gun shows. My strategy was to call in advance and let him know what I was looking for.
He never let me down.

I've loaded a ton of 7.62x39 and i've never used anything as slow as IMR3031.

H322/IMR 4198/H4198/RL7/AA1680/WW680/Alliant 2400/IMR4227 is what I've used with cast boolits and i've never had unacceptable results.

I'm using that 3031 for a .338 win mag with cast boolits. But there's folks who use it in SKS
and ak-47, both for cast and jacketed.

A look up on handloads.com for 150 gr. Jacketed:

Right here on Cast Boolits:
